Just bought a 2.0GHz Athlon chip which he now expressed as a 2000 okay fair enough can't be bothered to argue that but...

It should run at about 1.75 ghz for an Athlon 2000 XP. I can only get it to run at 1.25 in the putter. He said it will be because your BIOS is running at 100mhz instead of 133mhz, fine said I so I put it upto 133mhz and it won't start at all.

What is the score have I got a duff chip does the chip speed relate to the FSB speed etc

Try changing the jumper setting?

Depending on what motherboard you've got.

Yep there is a jumper on the board in addition to the BIOS setting.

Will have another look tonight. Are you essentially saying the board may be jumpered to 100 so when I ask the BIOS to run at 133 it has a fit?

Yes, look at your motherboard's manual and it should be able tell you how to set it up.

Could be the RAM, might not be 133Mhz so is refusing to boot...

You ain't said what model of motherboard, but if it's an older one a bios flash to the latest version might also help.

It just had a manual jumper for the FSB speed that was set to 100 now running fine at 133. Cheers chaps
