Can somebody clarify how the window drop function works when the door open button is pressed?

I believe it works off a magnet at the bottom of the door Rick.

The magnetic switch at the bottom rear of the door tells the door control ECU if the door is open or closed

A reed switch inside the door tells the ECU if the window is dropped or not (as the window comes down it closes the switch)

When the door button is pressed the ECU checks for window dropped and if it is fires the door catch

If the door isn't dropped the ECU powers the window down until the door dropped sensor is closed and then fires the door lock

Putting a magnet on the door open sensor when the door is open is a useful way to get the windows fully up to polish them.
Just remember to wind it back down before closing the door!

Ahh I was wondering what the switch was at the bottom of the door, is the magnet that it connects to built inside the fibreglass of the body as I cannot see 1 in the small recess? Unless it is missing?

I assume the magnet is fastened to the inside of the shell. I haven't had need to dig around in there yet.

The window on mine decided not to drop yesterday, I had a look & found that the cable from the loom was virtually submerged! I sopped the water out ,cleaned the drain hole & found the white connector from the switch was wet, sprayed it with Maplins electric cleaner ,then pulled the loom up vertical & manged to zip tie it to the brace bar in the door & it worked Hooray. Went for drive ...no washers banghead Arghhh you got to love these car's or give upbiggrin
