second hand market
Discussion
I've seen cars newer than mine that are really really tatty and seemingly unloved. I can only conclude that condition is reflected in price too - so you can perhaps only get an impression of that when the car for sale is infront of you. Colour and condition are going to be important factors in selling and will be reflected in the price.
I am currently looking to sell my 2002 Tuscan S for a price around the low £ 30k's. It was very difficult to put a valuation on the car, so I think you need to be very flexible in price terms when selling a car like this.
I based my level of low 30s on a £ 5k discount to dealer prices. There are currently several main dealer cars of this spec for sale around the 37-38K level. In my opinion, all you get is a 12 month warranty, which can be fairly limited in cover.
I think you have to put in context what 5K gets you in terms of servicing / repairs/ rebulds and weight this up vs the dealer price.
Also agreed that 2-3 year old cars be in very different condition and this should always be the over-riding factor. I think we all know from TVR experience that a loved car will always be a better bet...

Jamesy - I think that is a very sensible attitude to a private sale of a Tuscan / Tuscan S, and I would be beating a path to your door but for two reasons - I have a Chim to p/x, and I have already done a deal for an early S
It is evident to me that the market can be very fluid - a car is only worth what a buyer will pay - and that you must be realistic when selling privately.
Good luck

Well I have now lost the sensible attitude and all sense I ever had. I have decided to keep the TVR and run it alongside a 360.
Near on impossible justifying keeping it, but it is even harder to justify selling it. Having had a full rebuild last month, it is running better than ever.
The upside is that it is such a different car from the 360 in many ways, some better and some nowhere near. Having driven it a couple of times lately, with the roof off on some decent roads, I guess it is harder to leave the days of TVR ownership than I first thought.
Looking forward to alot of fun summer driving and having to make difficult decisions each time I head out in a car...
