Hi foIks - I fairly recently bought an 2002 Iveco 75e17 tector 4cyl - susequently the head gasket went (it was probably gone when i bought it to be honest - thanks eBay!) Ive done the head gasket itself no problem (i worked as a car mechanic for about 15 yrs till about 5 years ago) but i just wondered if anyone knew how to turn the engine over with the cab tilted to do the tappets? Its a bit hard to do by hand! There are two push switches on the n/s chassis rail by the engine which i suspect are to enable you to start it with the cab titled but neither of them seem to do anything when the cab is up whether the ignition is on or off. I wonder if theres something else i need to do to aswell, and also how do i make sure its in neutral as its hard to tell with the gearstick extended as it is when the cabs tilted?
Any help gratefully received..

Yes think the start stop should work with the ignition on you should be able to move the gear linkage to get neutral i would just turn it over manualy or you could tempoarly conect a push button onto the starter solinoid ..

Ok thanks all, and 'theshrew' for your email.. I may have a problem with the chassis switch as it doesn't do anything although it will turnover on the key with the cab closed. Still, its not the end of the world I guess I just wanted to see if I was doing something wrong

Ok mate i have your info

Re the switch

Cab up - you will only be able to start from the buttoms on the engine bay
Cab down - only from the cab
It has a proximity switch so thats prob faulty on yours. If the buttons are not working.

To turn it over you have to do it off the front of your engine. ( no inspection plate on that engine as i suggested in my mail ) Apparently its a mere to do.

For a bit of extra info that you might not be aware of when your doing the tappets. You dont set them in the normal way on that engine. You do half turn over then the other half Cummins quick set proceedure its called ( have a look on the net sure you will find teh proceedure )
