Hello, some words of wisdom please from you all out there ! I have just bought a second hand Brembo BBK for my M3 from a local specialist garage for £4500 (new it was £7000)The kit has only done 5k and is almost as new, no beef there. I knew they were selling it for one of their customers so I had to haggle with them on the best price. They had the kit on e bay (no offers) for £5500 which was a bit ambitious, I thought and I finally offered them £4000 which they said wasnt quite enough. Not wishing to lose the deal I asked what they would take bottom line, £4500 was their best which is still a good deal so I bought them. Long story short while looking through the for sale section of the BMW owners club mag last night there was the same kit advertised by the owner for £4000 !! Now I know we all want a profit but, I cant decide whether to e mail the garage and express my displeasure or take it on the chin as thats how business works ( I own my own so I should know !), nevertheless I am a bit annoyed that I didnt see the mag ad first !! Any thoughts from you sages out there, should I just move on and enjoy the new kit or let it eat away at me as to what I could have done with the extra £500 ? The wife says move on, shes usually right but sooooo rational !!

Are you annoyed that
1. The garage made a small profit? or
2. You didn't spot the ad and save yoruself some cash (which isn't their fault)? or
3. They didn't point out the ad (which they aren't obliged to do and would be doing themselves out of a profit)?

I'd listen to the wife.

I have lost count of the times I have researched a holiday, flight, car, camera, gizmo, where I think I've found the bottom-line price where within 24 hours I haven't tormented myself by finding it a few quid cheaper.

Ebay is a classic - you scour something mundane and select the cheapest option and when you order, it gives you about half a dozen other items which inevitably include a cheaper option.

Life is too short. Get over it. Enjoy your purchase.

If uninstalled, and less than 7 days, you've distance selling on your side for return for full refund.
Be worth a chat with the seller to mention this and the cheaper advert in the magazine - worst case is you'll be no better off.
£500, even with dropping that sort of dough, is not to be dismissed casually, even with this being PH.

Yes on all accounts !! I knew I should always listen to the wife, even when she reminds me of the speed limit, thanks all !

Of all the decisions I've been allwoed to make, the one's I've been made to regret the most have been those that involved not listening to the O/H.

HTH.

Distance selling doesn't cover 2nd hand goods though.

I have since e mailed the dealer (Rossiters AC Schnitzer) just to let them know of my mild displeasure and would they consider a better deal. I have recently spent nearly £10,000 with them. I am still happy with the original price I got the Brembos for but it doesnt hurt to let them know I know what the original asking price was from the owner, then I shall let it lie !

More importantly, lets see some photos of your car. It sounds like it has some nice modifications.

Garage had kit advertised for £5500
You paid £4500, which you said yourself was a good deal.

And you want to contact them to complain because you've seen it cheaper somewhere else afterwards?

They told you their price and you agreed - I'm really struggling to see the issue here?

Hi, I have not yet tried to post piccies as I have no idea how to do it ! I think its about time I gave it a go so I will try ! If I cant figure it out, for the time being its a 2008 E92 BMW M3, Silverstone II, mods to date include the Brembo BBK obviously, Akrapovic Evolution exhaust, ESS VT 600 Intercooled Supercharger with ESS ECU remap, pumping out 621 BHP at crank. (This car is a joy to drive !) Finally hubcentric wheel spacers so she sits a bit more aggressively. Going in for paint correction next week as some mismatched panel repairs in the past before I got her and stone chips to front. Future plans not so radical, maybe some black grilles and side vents. The car was featured in BMW owners club mag January this year.

Sucks you missed out on a better deal but such is life.

Out of curiosity, is your car a dedicated track car/ time attack car that requires a BBK or was mostly for the aesthetics?

Hi, I am just getting into track days and on the last one at Snetterton I really cooked the standard brakes which are OK for fast road use but no so good for prolonged spirited driving. I now have a judder on hard braking. I would like to do more track days and thought with the power of the car it would make sense to upgrade the brakes and the Brembos came along at just the right time (they also look nice as well to be totally honest !)

Had you tried racing fluid and better pads?

Most cars will not suffer from fade on track days with the right brake fluid and pads combined with standard disks and calipers. Hope you didn't spend £4500 fixing a £300 problem...

Of course, if you want to uprate the braking performance irrespective of fade, then better hardware will help.

Considered it but thought might as well go for hopefully the best solution. Needed to spend a bit of cash anyway, hadn't had a big spend on the car for a while !

Mate just sign up for a free photobucket account, upload your photos in there which is easy. Once uploaded under each image there will be an img code. Just copy and paste that into the box when you reply to the thread and that is it. Simples.
