Steve Callaghan's back!! Questions................
Discussion
Welcome Steve. Hope you stay a while this time.
I have some questions if I may:-
1.Are the published camera van locations reliable?
2.A friend of mine received a NOIP from a camera van recently. One of the photo's showed the front of his bike from 1/2 mile away at 75mph as he briefly overtook a slower vehicle ( 50mph limit ), and the other showed his plate. My friend apparently stopped at the traffic lights where the camera van was ( unfortunate
), so the operator must have somehow swung the camera round to take the picture from the rear. Is this legal. I thought that the two photo's would have to be taken one after the other, being used to compare speed. Also, what is to stop you from snapping one vehicle from the front, and ( not being able to get a fix on the original vehicle)a different vehicle from the rear providing they appeared similar. Can you explain how you "do" bikes!!
Thanks

On the thread about siting of talivans - on his own forum - the regulars there posted photos of our Steve's talivan operations.
(We do have photo of you offending vehicle - by the way - we took that the second time this twit did this - it was in the envelope we sent to you Liebchen - but you have gone and lost it - but then - we suspect you get sackloads of mail from angry victims returning their NIPs to you! The first time it happened - we were mildly amused and let it go. The second time it happened - were very, very angry - and you are impossible to reach on the telephone Liebchen - because you are very "busy man!" and it is such hard work keeping us so-called speeders in check!
Been on phone to husband - he is thinking of delivering to you in person in your offices. He is 100% English Liebchen - so he will stay in the one language - whereas I would mix them all up - and in my "delicate" condition - do not want to get excited as do not want bad vibes to get to kitten no 5
which is due November-ish but last one (nice healthy muppet) was not full term due to the er - incident!)
Anyway folks there is thread on "siting of talivans" on there - both Cooperman and BliarOut have passed comment there.
Lots of nice photos - A591 at Ings...
According to Steve - this is "selective photography" and his version shows van parked long way away from the site and gap in the little grass verge. Still looks like twit has driven over pavement to get to this hidey hole there. And posters have pointed this out.
The originator of the photo showing the truer picture is keen cyclist and takes these whilst cycling around. Contributor on his site pointed out that his photo used a wide angle lens to give impression of distance, and that it was old photo as well - layout of road has changed and the vegetation development really does speak for itself!
There is another - taken in one of our market towns there - talivan is on the yellow lines and thus illegally parked.
As far as Steve knows "they follow guidelines"
Yes - Liebchen - we know you do!
Photos show that you do not really know what your twits are getting up to when your back is turned!
You have not really replied to those contributors asking you hard questions on there - so do not believe for one moment that you will do so on here either!
You only police and enforce the lucrative bits - and you know as well as I do that there are some very dangerous roads around here - which are not policed and on which there are crunches.
The Tigers (old farties) asked you on your site!
The WildKatzen! "riff-raff rebels" asked you on your site:
I will ask it AGAIN on this one:
What exactly are you doing to promote safe driving in Cumbria apart from dodgy talivan activities at the sites mentioned on thread on your own site, and your hidden scam on M6 bridges?
Why do you think an advertisement campaign on the back of a bus is educating drivers?
What impact has it had?
Be honest now Liebchen
I am certain most on here would like to know how valuable and educational this is:
DON'T LET YOUR DRIVING SAY IT WITH FLOWERS
SLOW DOWN!
DON'T STOP DEAD!
Does it teach elements of COAST?
Are you prmoting anything to do with teaching COAST?
Are you thinking of following Lancs and having those "Speed Courses" and those "Driver Improvement Courses" that Officer Dibble was so informative about?
WHAT EXACTLY ARE YOU DOING TO PROMOTE REAL, TRUE AND PROPER ROAD SAFETY IN CUMBRIA!
And bear in mind - I am Mama as well - and bring up my kittens to be aware of traffic and dangers! So "Think of the children" will not really wash with me - as I already do!

I just want to know where the high percentage of people who support scamming are. According to steve, virtually the whole country is in favour.
Where are they then Steve? It's been a bit tumbleweed out there
Please, please, point to a thread or a comment that validates this level of support!
To quote Paul Smith, Lets make speed cameras as unnaceptable as drink driving

Ach! Liebchen
And about your "advert"
How much money did you actually spend on it?
It is a bit amateurish - is it not?
How many hours did it take your one brain cell to dream this "safety message" up?
What proportion of your fine money do you spend on driver education?
What proportion of your fine money goes on your expenses claim?
What proportion of your fine number goes on purchasing and replacing your equipment?
Expenditure on police overtime manning your speed traps?
What proportion of your criminals caught were breaking speed limit compared to the other crimes that go on around here?
How far did FMD affect your figures?
Ach! You will not answer these important questions - but if you do not make the attempt - you do yourself no favours at all - because we will all think worse of you!
Like the Wildkatzen said to you in one of their posts on your site:
This family will take a lot of convincing - and you have not come even close to convincing us that scameras are that good at saving lives!
You will have to do much better!

The public list of fixed camera sites isn't reliable either.
Norfolk (of the forced to resign Scamera manager ilk) has always touted the figures regarding the Camera on the Bridge at the A11 at Ketteringham (just south of Norwich).
However, it's not listed on the website. Possibly because there is no fixed camera there.

Wildcat.
Sorry but I've deleted the web site you mention from my favourites list. Can you re-post.
Thanks Liebchen
( Christ you've got me saying it now
Liebchen - it part of the vernacular back home - and all those I work with are all at it as well!
Site is right good giggle - well the forum is anyway! Our Swiss cheeses have been havin' a right larf on there!
www.cumbriasafetycameras.org
The rest of it does have some reasonable information - on scamera sitings etc
, but not always absolutely accurate - eh Stevie Liebchen!
and the Press Release bit is as hilarious as the forum - that is where you find that advert I am blathering on about! But on aggregate - surprisngly useful site overall - but it could do with a real tips for drivers section - such as promoting safe driving tips such as COAST and making that a real safety initiative!
I'd like to know where all these people in favour of speed cameras are also. Every person, and I mean EVERY person I know and have asked thinks they are a money grabbing racket. Even one of my friends who has found himself working for a Scam partnership. OK, Steve's answer would be that 'that's the company I keep'. I can assure him that where I work, and the circles I move in are not low life child killing scum. Very far from it.
They don't pay particularly well in the scameraships either by the way. About 18k in the north for working shifts. And that's not 18k in tax, that's 18k in income a year.
Hands up the first person who thinks speeds cameras are for safety and not revenue who either doesn't work for a scameraship.
I can hear the reply now. There will of course be some people who's lives have been touched by a motoring accident, all I would ask is 'would a speed camera have made a difference?' There is such an overwhelmingly high percentage of bad driving that Speed cameras can't detect or resolve that in most cases I would think not.
Well Steve?

Well Steve?
What gets me is this: what sort of person would have anything to do with the actual equipment? It's comparable with being a traffic warden or other petty official really.
I'm an electronics techie. One of my projects involves building machines to give rodents massive doses of radiation. If the boss told me to build one to 'do' humans, I'd resign.
In similar fashion, if he announced that we were taking on the servicing of Gatso's, every member of staff would down tools.
Ever seen a vehicle used by an engineer working on camera systems? They tend to be unmarked, as otherwise they'd be instant targets, as would those who drive them. So the people who do this work must know they are unpopular.... so are they being paid huge sums of money? I doubt it. One can only presume that they are the sort of people who would 'grass' their Jewish neighbours to the Nazis.

Thats a bit strong, even for you!
I get what you are saying but if I was out of work and completly broke Id work on scameras before I other jobs.
After all, you could always accidentily set them too high
Or perhaps even work out a way to just program it to read goverment officials number plates

There are a whole lot of Unanswered Questions on the Cumbria Silly Camera Pratnership web site.
They all seem reasonable questions to most people, but 'Speedfinder-General' Steve Callaghan won't, or can't, answer them.
Can I suggest you all take a lok at the questions to see if you think them reasonable. Maybe we'll get some answers, maybe not. If not, then we can draw our own conclusions that it is all just a big SCAM (I can use that word on here, Steve).
What amazes those of us who post on there is that we were told that the forum was to answer sensible questions, but all those sensible questions just don't get answered. I wonder why.
