No More Smells!
Discussion
I've owned my Griff for over 10 years & 50k+ miles & up until now I'd always struggled with the boot (& in turn the cockpit) being very 'fumey' (with the roof up/down/targa off).
The boot release mechanism has been adjusted numerous times, the seal replaced & the solenoid too; all to no avail. I'd stumbled across Clive F's mod for the under boot air scoops on the 'Griffith Pages' ages ago & thought it looked like a good idea- then promptly forgot about it.
Anyway, to cut to the chase; I was clearing out a shed & found some old ally sheet which cased a lightbulb moment. 20 mins later the scoops were formed, the Griff up in the air & they were fitted.
The scoops have been tested over the past month or so & there is a huge improvement; previously my wife could tell when I'd been out in the Griff when I walked into the room!! Not so now....
So thanks Clive for a simple mod for an irritating issue.

Air passing over the 6 holes create a negative pressure inside the boot drawing in exhaust fumes. Then you come to a stop & atmospheric pressure is resumed- one of the easiest ways for the gas/fumes to escape is via the 2 vents below the rear screen into the cockpit.
With the scoops fitted the boot is permanently pressurised therefore exhaust fumes are not sucked in via the boot seal.

This is not applicable to pre-cats if I remember rightly? Bloody annoying (for the few times I have the roof on of course
)
Mine's a pre-cat, but I don't have the extension pipes fitted- the boot would still have lower pressure tho'.

its great to see people making this mod and fitting themselves, and if you are happy with it please click on the link to make a donation to the charity as detailed on the griffith pages
