My drivers window died yesterday - luckily while up. It is not a fuse, so does anybody know of common faults with these which might be fixable. It would surprise me if they did not show signs of failing beforehand.

Cheers

There's a plug in the door cavity that connects the window motor to the electrical circuit. You canb go in through the speaker hole (take the cover off the speaker and unscrew it). The plugs often come loose. Happened to me. Just needed pushing back together.

When mine failed it failed with the window down...

alternatively, the mechanism has packed up - mine did, last november - window down! tvr quoted £250 for new motor and mechanism plus fitting of approx 2 hours. i hunted around and and got one for about £150 from tvr breakers/parts and fitted it myself in about half an hour.

Thanks for the help - I'll try the first option now. In case it is the motor, I presume it is a part TVR have sourced from elsewhere, does anybody know what it is from?

I had the same problem with my Griff and yes it was the motor which had burnt out because the rocker switch had stuck on. Must admit I tried to replace it myself but gave up after a couple of hours trying, respect to gjm! Dealer charges 4 hours labour irrespective of how long they take to fit, apparently they can be a real pig (mine certainly seemed to be). As for source, I tried the alternative parts list on the web and spoke to a breakers but apparently the factory take a base motor and do something clever with it. Btw my dealer charged me £160 for my new motor.

Did you wash the car recently or has it got rained on ? Same happended to mine and was due to water getting in through the window seal. As they ohter guys have said - take out the speaker - check the connection and if its got damp give it a good dose of WD40 - should be right as rain (sorry!).....

If not, Bugger, its gonna eat more cash.....

Good luck

My Griff had the same problem, it was a connector in the door. Remove the speaker, remove the skin from your hand getting the thing apart, clean as best you can and put it back together in a plastic bag to keep the water out.
