Hey guys.

Last Monday I put a deposit down on a used car from a reputable car group (I won't mention names) on my credit card.
After going away and checking my wages had gone in for definite, I then proceeded to make the final payments on my debit card over the telephone.

However, the sales manager had "accidentally" keyed in the transaction to go through needing a signature - and as I wasn't at the dealership I was unable to sign the transaction so the dealer voided it and then went to put it through a 2nd time but without a signature (which was the original plan).
However, the bank had already held the funds the first time round, so there was therefore insufficient funds for them to take.
Whilst this was going on, the manager says the car is ready and it is definitely mine when he gets the funds.
So a couple of days pass, and the bank releases my money from holding (hurray), so I ring the dealer to say I'll be paying when I collect the car.
A member of the sales team informs me that it isn't ready for collection as something has gone wrong on the headlight (can't remember what) so its waiting for the part to be fitted!

I can't understand how the car was ready last week but now all of a sudden it has a fault that prohibits the sale?!

Where do I stand? Cut my losses and leave the car along with my deposit? Or just turn up to the dealers with the cash asking for the car and try lay it on a bit claiming I've been messed around so I get some decency out of them eg tank of fuel?

Any help would be appreciated and I apologise for the essay and lack of paragraphs. iPhone typing is tedious! smile

Why don't you just go and see them and check what the issue is? Not sure some randoms on the internet can help you make your mind up.

If it were me, I'd just ask why the headlight all of a sudden needed repaired. There could be a perfectly reasonable explanation and they have done the decent thing and not hidden it from you. Talk to them, this thread won't help you.

Do you still want the car?

If so, then what exactly is the problem, they found a fault and are fixing it. Are they going to make you wait that long for the car?

Say

'Oh right, I thought it was all ready? What did you find wrong?'

They will then tell you what the problem was and you can feel pleased they are fixing the car for you. Alternatively you may feel aggrieved by their answer and may want to ask more questions.

Thanks for the reply. When I get the go ahead from the dealer to collect it I'll be firing many questions at them smile

Assuming it's a one manufacturer dealer or group, I'd wager that the part was nicked for another car to get it dealt with quickly, meaning yours now needs the new part.
