Noticed this today

http://www.group1cars.com.razsor.autotrader.co.uk/...

not far from me.

Really like the look of them and it seems like a good combo of spec and price.

Should the milage be of any concern and has anyone any experience of them?

Depends how long you intend to keep it I guess and if you're going to be piling the miles on and how this will affect the resale. People still have a mental issue about 100k mileages.

My dad drives a 2004 mazda 6, and before that he had a 626 for like 7 years, he swears by japanese cars, so from that anecdotal perspective you should be fine with that 6, quality car, and looks quite nice i think.

I work for a Mazda dealer, this is a great car to munch miles in. Its the sport model and will have 183bhp, cost new is about £24k. Dont buy it if your just going to do the school run in it and other constant short journeys as you will get DPF probs. Otherwise very reliable but needs a service every 12.5k miles.

The dealer hasn't been there long and is hooked up to an alloy wheel repair place, but he seems to sell some decent metal.

I will be doing a mix of one month local commuting, 10/12 miles a day then the next month 60ish miles a day interspersed (sp?) with some long runs to Milton Keynes/Northampton.

I really like the Mazda 6 and am I right in thinking it shares the Mondeos running gear/chassis etc?

I'm currently looking at getting a Mazda 6 but the 163ps version of the 2.2d, school runs will be done in it but the majority will be 100+ miles a day round trip to work.

Don't want wheels bigger than 16". I know I could get the sport and put smaller wheels on but that would be a mod and I can't be arsed with informing insurance company. And I'm looking at getting a hatchback so you can keep your estate tongue out

Reading up about this DPF issue and it is a little concering, especially on a 90k engine.

Is there a way to check if the car has been running with DPF faults? I understand it can seriously hinder the engines lifespan.

I was under the impression that the DPF was mainly a problem on the 2.0d, the 2.2 uses a different type of DPF. Saying that I have read that it is still recommended to use the 2.2 at no less than 2000rpm for 20 mins. I can't see it being a problem as I will mainly be using it on a 100+ mile return trip to work and a few trips a week to school.

I have heard that it's the 2.0d too to be fair.

I'm only being put off (slightly put off) by the milage and the fact that it was probably a company/fleet car.

Also not sure about the seller as they've not been there long. Still, if I do my homwork and get a deal for around £6900 it should be fine.

I'd hope that being an ex company car the servicing should be in good order, mileage is high but it would mean to me that it wasn't used for short journeys, hence there should be no worries with the DPF. Thats what I keep telling myself when I see a car I like the look of with higher than average mileage! smile

The general rule with Mazdas is DON'T BUY to diesels !

I bought a 2.3 Sport for my wife and paid for an LPG conversion - 2006 car with 49k doing effectively 45mpg owes me £3700 and no DPF / injectors / pump / turbo to worry about

I've got one, a slightly newer Sport Estate than the one on the link, in the copper colour. They had a slight facelift just before I got mine (only one tail pipe for example). I've had it since new, it's a company car.

I've had it since December 2010 and use it mainly to commute from Braintree to Harlow (which you might know given your user name). That means 75% of the time it's going up and down dual carriageways at good working temperature so I've never had any DPF issues. I've done just over 30,000 miles

It's a good car, capable of going quite quickly in a straight line and hangs on well in the corners. The interior is nice, if you like black, and the ride is OK but you do know you're on 18 inch alloys when the road is less than super smooth.

I get around 43mpg out of it, if that's important to you. The stereo's pretty good too and the bluetooth connection works well once you've set it up.

The only real negatives I think of are that I can never seem to get the auto wipers to work satisfactorily and there's no spare wheel, you get a can of spray stuff to handle tyre problems. Also, I bought a litre bottle of oil shortly after getting it because it needed a top up and that was ferociously expensive. There was only one type in Halfords that met the spec, a type of Mobil 1, so I'm glad I'm not paying the servicing costs.

Would I have another - no I wouldn't. Not that it's a bad car but for me, sat on the M11 and A120 at 7.45 - 8.30 in the morning and 5.30 to 6.30 in the evening I don't need a 185bhp family estate car and I'm never out on my own enough to chuck it around some B roads, if I wanted to. If I did that with the kids in the back they'd start moaning. I am thinking that I'd be better off with a lower power diesel estate that offers better economy for the commute and general getting from A to B and getting something a bit more interesting as a second car when the time comes. In fact, an office move and the prospect of working from home some of the time has had me looking in the various barge threads on the forum!

However I am stuck with it until December 2014 unless I can get it to 120,000 miles before then!

Hope this helps.

We have just got an 07 plate 2.0 petrol estate so the previous generation to this. Certainly on the previous shape rust on the wheel arches is something to look for. As for the diesels my understanding was that they are well known for DPF issues and also potential pump and injector problems. second hand prices do seem to be quite low. We paid under 5k for an 07 with 36k on it.

On the positive side again for the previous generation, the chassis is great a good compromise between handling and damping. The interior is a nicer place to be in my opinion than a Mondeo and the styling preferable. The load area is really usable. Not the most economical petrol, on a long m/way run at sensible speeds, still only getting around 35-37mpg.

For us the mix of driving we do wouldn't have kept a dpf clean, so petrol was the logical choice for any diesel not just Mazda.
