currently jobless.. i would accept those proposals.
sack em all then employ people that are grateful to actually have work
I feel for you and understand that, the JLR workers seem to think they can screw Tata and i think they'll be disappointed in the long run.sack em all then employ people that are grateful to actually have work
id rather they move JLR and keep it alive, than leave it here and let it die at knifepoint in the hands of unions

yup.. TATA will not let unions kill it and suck its entire global turnover into a lazy unproductive black hole that are the unions of the UK.

The union supports the package proposed. This is not a union issue, it's a basic people issue where people don't want to give up their Saturdays.id rather they move JLR and keep it alive, than leave it here and let it die at knifepoint in the hands of unions
"The Unite union issued a statement expressing “disappointment”, and said a new round of discussions would be held with management."

As it happens the unions recommended to approve the changes, i think they are looking at the future. I'm not sure they would do that if it meant redundancies TBH.id rather they move JLR and keep it alive, than leave it here and let it die at knifepoint in the hands of unions
I'm fairly sure TATA are big enough to move the golden egg elsewhere if necessary. I do wonder if these are the same workers that fretted over their jobs when Ford were in charge.
i stand corrected.. but you cant deny that this mentality of the workers has come from the way unions have behaved over the last XXX years.
the workers need to realise at the bottom of the job market, 99% of jobs include weekend working as the norm.
if they want to keep their weekends, they need to do some studying, improve their prospects and get themselves promoted to exec level. simple.

Typical attitude in this country, what would people rather do work the occassional Saturday as im sure it would be on a Rota and when they do a Saturday probably get another day off during the week, or have all week off because they wont have a job? I didnt realise manufacturing jobs were so easy to come by in the U.K.
Also all the people who voted no I would immediately alcohol and drug test them, if they fail sorry theirs the door and get some people in who would be gratefull for the job.

the norm is 5 of 7 rotating shift. you only get a free day off on christmas day.. but most likely will be working till 9-10pm xmas eve
My better half work nights, but she signed up for a job that works nights. She didnt start off in a day job and was told, "oh now you have to work nights". I respect people who work non std hours.the norm is 5 of 7 rotating shift. you only get a free day off on christmas day.. but most likely will be working till 9-10pm xmas eve

I think this sums it up. sack em all then employ people that are grateful to actually have work
Why not sack the entire workforce and spend two weeks retraining the new lot. Then add into their contracts: anyone who joins a union will be sacked on the spot. Yes there will be a month of downtime but the future would be set forever.
