Hi guys

Is this a common problem?
I get the impression the handbrake is releasing (light in dash extinguishes to confirm) however I can hear 'brake' squeeling when driving, leading me to the impression the (I presume floating) handbrake pads are catching and need resetting?

Any idea what sort cost Aston would charge to have this done, as I presume 'adjustments' would not be a warranty item?

Cheers
Max

There are aparrently revised handbrake pads that my dealer fitted for me with a liberal dose of slip. Squeal has been gone for weeks now. Mine was done for free as I'd only had the car for a week so not sure what a dealer would charge. I did provide the AM part number in a previous thread but can't remember what it was. Perhaps a search will find it.

The handbrake pads can also catch much of the brake dust, you may find that a well directed hose will stop the squeaking. Mine were a little more persistant, I had Trinity adjust mine - and it's remediated the majority of the squeaks. No new pads needed.

I've had rear brake squeal on both my roadsters
First the dealer advised the cable may be sticking but ended up reseating all the pads and putting the blue stuff on (must find out what that is!)
The S now has the same symptom
It will go in to the dealer after my SW jaunt

I have the blue gunk too. Must be the magic ingredient.

Thanks guys
My car has had 'new' handbrake pads fitted as part of previous maintenance, so maybe I need to find out what the part numbers were.

Woollie, if you have the part numbers fitted to yours that would be great
Mikey, I assume as you have a good relationship with the dealer, your work was done under warranty or did you have to fork out?

Mine (2008 roadster) had a squeek, new handbrake pads fitted under warranty cured it.

Does it squeal when braking? Or when driving?

If the latter you need to check for binding. After a motorway run, see if any of the disks are hot.

Definitely started to get worse, binding now I reckon as I have a lovely squeel when driving around.

Will see what Aston want to fix it on Monday (if they dont class it as a warrany repair) else I might try and get it over to Mike a BR, as presumably the pads and cable probably just need resetting.

Anybody know what sort of depths are normally on the Handbrake pads?
