Jumped in the car to find this became illuminated once all the other lights had gone out (it went out and then came back on 1 or 2 secs later). I've had a look at the manual, which isn't overly helpful (the car has plenty of fuel, so that's ruled out) is there anything I should look at straight away to check?
It's idling fine, and I took it for a short drive to get it warm and the car doesn't seem any different to normal. Revved fine, not hesitant etc.
I'm hoping it's just a spurious warning...

More amber coloured, but not red.

so thats just an advice warning light, rather than a 'stop right now' light. You need to take your car to somewhere which has a ECU fault reader tool (most garages have them). Failing that, you can buy then online for about 30 quid. They/u will need to plug it into your car and it will tell you what the fault code is on your ecu. You should then have a better idea what it is.

Sometimes the faults can be false (I actually had one yesterday which turned out to be false!

Happened to mine when I had it. If you aren't bothered about finding out the fault code then disconnect the battery and put your foot on the brake for about a minute. This will clear the fault codes and turn off EML. If it comes on again you could then investigate further.

My guess, if anything, is HT leads which is a cheap and easy fix smile

Thanks chaps. A friend has offered the use of his OBDII scanner, so should find out what the problem is later.

Sorry for the thread highjack but mine came on earlier. Luckily a family friends garage was nearby so I had it read, came back as power steering sensor. I was going to take it to get the tracking checked and wheels balanced as I thought it coukd have done with it again, steering seems slightly vague and bumpy.

Wondering if its something else now?! Its been cleared just got to see if it comes back again

That sounds more like tyre pressures or worn tyres.

Tyre pressures are spot on and loads of tread.

Sorry if I havent explained it properly, it just feels like theres a bit of slack in the steering, everytime I hit a bump I feel it through the steering more than I would expect.

Will have to get it looked at.

Mk2.5's flash the EML when you need to "stop right now".

Mine's been on for about 18 months now, been traced to the gearbox speed sensor and been told there's no point in doing anything until there's any problems with speedometer.

Managed to get it scanned by a friend of mine and it showed a P0031 error, along with "H02S Bank 1 Sen 1 Heater Circuit Low".
Which relates to - A P0031 DTC (diagnostic trouble code) refers to the O2 sensor (oxygen sensor) located on Bank 1 in front of the catalytic converter.
I've reset it and I'll just see if it comes back.

My engine light on my Mk2.5 covers on sometimes and then goes out after a while. Cant see no reason as to why it does this, it goes fine and it doesnt feel wrong.

And inevitably it has, straight away! biggrin
I guess I'll just have to order a replacement...
