Photos On CV's

I am updating my CV..what are peoples thoughts on including a photo?

Would it put employers off? I am average looking, but look young for my years (44) so i thought it might help..

We had a guy do this (and use a script type font).

Oddly we employed him and he's really good, but although his CV did catch the attention, I think it cast a slightly negative perception before we met him.

If he hadn't been a really good fit, on paper, for the role, I think we'd have ditched him quicker than if it'd been a more formal type of CV.

Again, I suppose it depends on the type of company - Where image and presentation are very important it would save a lot of time, but if it's not, what's it matter what you look like?

Unless it's for the creative/entertainment industry that has specified a particular look for a role, it is frowned upon as it could lead to awkward counter claims and allegations if not selected to role based upon looks and not competency. A good recruiter or employer would dismiss a CV with a photo on it, not least, there's no guaranteeing the photo is a true likeness of the candidate who could be using it as a bluff or to gain unfair advantage. One very hot potatoe of an issue!

Depends what the photo is of.

If you are a photographer, it might show off some of your skillz.
A readers' wives style expose of your Mrs might help if your boss is a perv.
A sad orphan might guilt them into a big payrise.

But a general photo of you? No.

Unless you're a smoking hot 21yr old women no grown man will want to see your photo, so best outcome is indifference worst is your skills are ignored in favourite of taking the piss out of your photo.

A friend of mine at uni puts photos of the vehicles he has built / worked on whilst at uni (Motorsport course looking or Motorsport related job). I found this a little odd, I thought this would make it look unprofessional. Opinions?

Not on your CV, I would mention in the covering letter or personal statement that a portfolio of work I had worked on can be presented at request or some such, not stick pictures on my CV.

I take an A4 wallet folder thing with me to interviews with photos of projects and jobs ive done, not on my CV though!

If you put on a picture of a hottie then get called in and not offered the job because your a not so hottie, can you sue them?

weird idea but, as mentioned, standard or even expected in parts of Europe. quite how they justify it I don't know. I'd be tempted to put a picture of someone else on mine. see what happens.
