A mate is coming up here for a very low-key stag do in Scarborough this weekend. I've never been out in the evening there despite living in Ryedale. The group is half a dozen very normal middle-aged chaps (well, Brummies). Any hints on where to go and where not to go pubwise? Thanks in advance.

I wouldn't bother, as a local it's a hole.

Go to York and enjoy yourselves.

Unless you like rancid women and wessies in tacky pubs and bars. In which case you'll love it.

Thanks Oliver, much as I thought. Your reply is the same as everybody else I've asked but unfortunately they have booked their accommodation there. Whitby was bad enough at night but I understand this is another level.

Drop Mark Mullen a line via his profile. He lives there so should know where to go and where to avoid.

Do York during the day Saturday and come back on the last train - you have one at 8.40pm or 10.15pm. Takes about 40 mins £8.50 each way. That would be my suggestion.

I had a night out in Whitby a couple of years ago with mates and as we were queuing for THE nightclub the bouncer asked us to move aside and shortly after a chap flew past head first. Charming little spot hehe

Anyway, the ONE saving grace for Scarborough is that one of the pubs - I can't remember which - serves Sierra Nevada Ale on draught.

Have you considered driving up to Boro from there during the day and booking a days Karting at Langbar

It's better on a saturday as it's busier, fridays can be very hit and miss.

Avoid sea front pubs and the ones on the road up from the beach. Start at Lord Rosebys (spoons), then head to Storm, then Klosters, onto Scholars then Soltz and round to Barbican, Blue Lounge and finally get fleeced for Bolyns(sp).

Can be a decent night, can equally be a crap night.

Thanks for the replies, I'll pass them on. I'm glad I'm not going. Wish they'd asked before they booked. They're bikers coming up for the roads round here so it wont be a complete disaster. Unless they're murdered to death first night. I will try to persuade them to train it to York.

So Scarb to Helmsley, up to Stokesly and then across to Castleton, back down to Hutten-le-Hole then and back to Scarb. Shame the weather is so poor at the moment.

From Hutton maybe add Pickering to Whitby then to Scarborough in the middle of that. Yep, not short of cracking driving/biking roads round here, are we? Marvellous.
