Personal number plates - what's done/not done

I've searched for this as I'm sure it's been done to death but couldn't find it because, yeah you guessed it, the search is down.
I'd like a personal/vanity plate and whilst I've considered a dateless 3x3 plate, I've not found one I like for sensible money. I'm wanting to spell anything or change the spacing, just something with my initials.
I've spotted one that'll work nicely on my Elise that reads L111 ABC (where ABC would be my initials). It's available for £199.
It's not too showy but it has my initials and a reference to my car, a Lotus Elise 111S (S111 ABC isn't available).
So, is this acceptable to the PH masses (not that I care too much
