French parking

Second week of returning to Cannes. Immediatley reminded how many cars display damage.On the Rue d'Antibes ( high st)there are bollards shaped like cannon balls running the length of road to stop parking.Yesterday I witnessed the driver of a brand new Citroen attempt to park between bollards, crunch goes the rear, moves forward crunch goes the front. Guess damage at least 500 euro. Car park 50 metres away 2.40 euro per hr. Explain that!!

My experience of Le French is the same. They'll go out and spend many Euros on a brand new all-singing-all-dancing car (French, of course) but will run it completely into the ground, well beyond the vast majority of English owners - often 20-25 years.In the area where my parents live, there are still vast quantities of Renault 5s, old shape Clios and all manner of late 80s/very early 90s French motors still being used as daily drivers, yet in the UK it's quite rare to see much older than 10/15 years on the daily commute.
That reminds me of my time working in cannes.
We used to put up exibitions in the Palais de festival, one day on a lunch break about 15 of us watched a french couple in a white fiat panda park in a gap about three inch longer than the panda, about 15 times forward, 15 back they were finally in after having bashed the front and rear of their car and the cars in front.
As they got out they were met with a round of applause from us all, they just waved and went about their day.

whats the deal with the building with all the Disney characters painted on it?
Many buildings have murals of stars like Marilyn Monroe, Alan Delon etc not sure what building has Disney characters like Micky Mouse. Cannes film week shortly so probably connected with that. However some idiots have got into a luxury apart in a block on the Croisette and covered the exterior with graffiti. Can't have pleased the towns fathers who are very particular especially with film week coming up. Just come back from a week down there in the Capri, it was a blesses relief to reach France after the chaos of Italy!Stayed in Frejus and took the coast road to Cannes,what a cracking bit of tarmac!

yup especially in Paris - quite comical to see someone parking in a space that you thing is impossible.............well it isn't if you barge the car in front and behind a few inches. Very much an alien concept to us civilised types.
Every time I went to the Dordogne its was astonishing to see how few cars there are that are none french and bigger than c4 size. The second hand values also seemed astronomical
