Is it worth buying a PS3?
Discussion
I used to play a lot of PC games, primarily First person Shooters. I tried online and it is quite addictive but I have two kids now I don't have the time to devote to get good enough to be able to compete. Even before the kids I struggled to find the time to play enough and used to spend a lot of time getting wasted by school kids. Besides I always prefered the single player story anyway.
It's a better all rounder than an xbox, blue ray, Internet browsing has all the benifits of netflix, lovefilm and others like BBC iplayer, 4od and 5 catch up.
Eye toy camera is about £10 and you can msn video chat.
Online gaming is fantastic but same quality as an xbox.
For just over £100 for a pre-owned console you really can't go wrong.
I have xbox upstairs and ps3 downstairs well worth getting either but recommend PS3.

You don't need to be good to have a good laugh online. There's alot of ps3 players on mw3 all different skill sets and we have some great banter.

Don't buy a second hand one is my advice and absolutely avoid at all costs the "fat" ones.
Wasn't the problem more specific to the 60 gig ones, rather than the fat ones in general? I've had my fat 40 gig one since they were released and my mate's had a 2nd hand 40 gig one for nearly as long and both are still working fine. Mine has spent all its life in a dusty environment as well.Negative Creep said:
The main problem I have with the PS3 is the pad feels cheap an isnt very comfy
I'd say exactly the same for the Xbox controller though....The PS3 controller I got with my slim 320GB is only starting to feel worn out after about 1000 hours use, plus you don't have to worry about batteries or buying a battery pack to recharge...

Agreed about the controller, as does almost every review there's ever been I think. The 360 controller has so much more weight to it, and feels much more solid. It just fits better in the hands. If it's just a media tool, then go PS3. Although the Xbox is getting better with all the video apps now. Online gaming is the real strength for the Xbox.
Don't think we'll see either next gen consoles until Christmas 2013. Probably announced at next years E3.

You've got the hands of a 5 year old girl haven't you? Go on, admit it!

The PS3 pads do wear out after a while. The mushrooms lose their damping around the centre point and (eg.) when you think you're crouched down in one spot on COD, you're actually strafing very slowly to the left or right without really realising it. I've not used the Eggbox pads so can't comment.

lolSeriously though....I do play with an EA Comfort Play Pack with the PS3 controller, so it bulks it all out and is very confortable for long term constant gaming. All of my mates on Xbox who have been round and used my controller with the pack have said it is a lot more comfortable than the Xbox ones they own, especially after long periods of gaming. Btw, I do also have an xbox but have not found a decent controller add on that I can play with over hours.
I find the L3 and R3 buttons badly placed, and very easy to knock when you place it down (annoying when watching a film. It's odd since I grew up with the PS1 and 2 and can't get used to the PS3. I will say is that the d pad is much better.
For dvd and blu ray I would pick the PS3 anytime, but almost all of my gaming is on the 360. I gave up on rivialries a long time ago, but unlike the snes/megadrive or playstation/saturn days, the game libaries are pretty much identical and there's little to choose in terms of graphics

Might have to look into one of those packs then, I've found it's fine for shooters and the likes of Uncharted, but if I try to play a racing game on it I get really bad cramp after a few minutes.
