What Merc has an 8 litre engine?

My brother in law's mate lives in Germany and is loaded. Apparently he is running around in a Merc with an 8 litre engine, but I can't work out what model it is. There are apparently only two of them in Germany.

Any ideas?

ahh, that would be the extremely rare A80AMG Black series....a real beast!

It's probably got an Actros badge on it! Biggest engine to my mind, is the 7.3 V12 in the R129 SL73 AMG. There'll be more than 2 of them in the fatherland though i would've thought.

The 7.3 M120 V12 is the largest post-war car engine. There are about 75 SL73 AMGs. Pre-war, the Grosser 770 had a 7.65litre motor. There are more than two of those, as well.

Yes, appropriate answer. Like a lot of manufacturers, large engine sizes in the 30s, 40s wasn't too uncommon.

Basically you need to ascertain if your mate is talking about "...something huge, like 8 litres or something...!" - basically a bit of hyperbole involved, and he's talking about something old like a 770 or if he's got something that's entertaining a more modern 7.3 V12.

...or maybe he's using some sort of old motr racing equilivency formula, where you multiply the volume of a supercharged engine by a factor??

Could be the prototype W18-configuration motor which at one time was slated for the w140 but I doubt they'd let that out of the archive. It is mentioned in an edition of Mercedes-Benz Classic but I cannot lay my hands on the article.
