West Coast,Cal Mac ground clearance.

Sorting out a wee road trip for some pals. Going via Mallaig/Armadale,Uig/Tarbert,Stornaway/Ullapool. Dax Rush V8 and Westfield will be in the group. Only got about 3.5 inches of clearance on them. Will they get on and off the boats OK ?
I have only used those boats in a Motorhome so it has never been an issue!
Anyone used these crossings in a "low" car? Thanks.

As said above the guys on the ferries are quite used to dealing with low cars. Checking the tide shouldnt make too much of a difrance as the bit the boat docks to usually moves up and down with the tide. Its just the last little lip that could be a problem but they will have enough planks etc to get the cars on/ off the boat. If the worst does happen and you cant drive on its only a caterfield 4/5 of you should be able to lift it over the lip.
Pretty much as above. I live on arran and have an F430 which goes across occasionally. Tide times to hit are between low and high tide for the Arran ferry, but all linkspans are different, as are the ferries. They will take car of you, just turn up early and let them position the car and offer to support it if required. Don't let them rush you. The Arran lot are VERY good.
I have had a Lotus Esprit and a Ferrari 355 across on the Storloway run many times. Each time I book, I call or e-mail Calmac and let them know that I need guidance on and off due to the low clearance.
The loading master usually guides me on and off, and have used planks a few times.
Unfortunately both the Esprit and the 355 bottomed out on the ramp causing £1000 worth of damage each time...its amazing how much a bit of scuffs on the front can cost on these cars but Calmac insurance paid for the repairs both times after reporting it to the Chief Stewart.
This was due to the loading master rushing, so my tip is phone in advance, advise the car is going on, ask for guidance from the loading master and most of all, don't let him rush you.
