After almost three years of relatively fault free Porsche ownership, I am scratching my head this evening with an annoying issue, crossing my fingers I am not going to have my wallet emptied.

Before I start, I have googled the various forums to look for answers to this query - I have found similar issues but none exactly the same and no solutions thus far. Please help.

The remote key fob stopped working earlier. No light blinking on the fob, not opening the car etc.

My spare worked fine so I tried changing the batteries over as a temporary measure and also to see whether it was the fob itself... Unfortunately now neither key is working. Both are knackered.

I have tried several things: (1) trying the batteries both ways round (positive and negative) (2) putting a new battery in from a new vehicle (3) putting keys in the ignition, switching engine on, then off and then pressing the remote button (4) putting the keys in the door etc.

The blades work but the keys are dead. No LED, no keyless entry, nothing.

HELP!

Hi Molly

No, been out in the car tonight; had new battery fitted at Xmas time.

Hi there

It sounds as though you have eliminated the "car gone into dormant mode" option. As has been said already put the car on charge to make sure you have a healthy vehicle battery.

Swap the key fob batteries back to how they were. You might even replace both batteries to eliminate them from your enquiries.

Your key has 3 separate elements to it. The mechanical blade, a proximity immobiliser and a remote sender for the locking. It is possible for these to go out of sync with the car. There is a coding process to go through which a main dealer or specialist with the necessary diagnostic kit can do. Worst ways its a new key and coding which will set you back a couple of hundred pounds give or take.

Good luck

Hi, I had similar issue about a year ago, one key stopped working so I replaced the battery, still not working so I swapped he battery with the working key. Then both did not work. In the end I went to the OPC who ordered 2 new key heads, which were programmed and worked but one door then only locked intermittently. This lock was replaced at which point the lock on the other side immediately failed. So ended up with two new locks and 2 new keys (nice and shiny).

I hope you have better luck than me with it, but the only thing I can suggest is checking the locks are working OK first before replacing both keys.

Good luck

Cheers for the replies so far.

I am a bit of a thicko when it comes to cars (can't screw a bulb in) so I am hoping it is somethign simple.

I am going to see Mike at Sports and Classic tomorrow who is really good, so I am sure I will know more then.

The micro switch on the circuit board in the key can fail. If you're handy with a soldering iron, you can replace it yourself. Otherwise, it's wallet out time.

...and Mike sure did.

At the drop of a hat he saw me and it was fixed within 2 mins.

Apparently there's a little plastic/rubber but which should sit above the battery. I had put the batteries in over it. Easy fix.

Mike is a great and honest guy. Some garages would have billed me up for new keys.
