SO for the last few months the enterprise aka gax my a4 tdi with 374k miles on it has had an odd problem.

Handbrake on select first gear release clutch there was no slip. Get underway and into third, fourth or fifth and try accelerate and it would rev up by 5-1500rpm then drop back and sluggishly climb or on occasion bounce up again then drop and settle.

At first I was very much hoping it was the egr valve however the other day I went to reverse and there was a horrible grinding noise from the clutch/gearbox area. I decided that it was time for the clutch and dual mass flywheel to be replaced as although i hoped it was the egr my mechanics had been telling me for some time the dmf was on its way out which was what was causing the judder and slip issues.

I therefore booked the car in to pitstart for a new clutch dmf and all ancillary seals to be replaced as a precaution.

Went to pick it up this evening and unbelievably the dmf which i thought was shagged was pretty much ok> The problem was being caused by a 40 quid seal which had perished and was letting fluid get onto the clutch causing the clutch to slip and burn.

700 quids work to replace a 40 quid part. Un fking real.

As an added pitstart is fantastic. Fantastic bunch of guys really helpful and friendly cant say enough about them really and their mechanics are very reasonably priced.
