Its got full climate a radio and burr Walnut (rather than Zebrano) so it has a positively massive spec compared to many W126s sold in the UK!!
I remember my dad considering a 280SE or 380SE in 1985 - about the only thing standard was automatic transmission - and fog lights! They're in the headlamp cluster IIRC. I seem to think vinyl seats were a no cost option in the UK.
Still, they're a beautiful car and a pleasure to see in this condition. The W126 is the last Mercedes I truly like.

I've always loved the W126, I was beaten to a 560 SEL and ended up with a 300 SE instead. I just love the elegant simplicity of the interior, the comfy seats, the view down the curved bonnet to the star on the bonnet and the fact you don't need to drive it fast. I enjoy just wafting everywhere in comfy silence..
I hope you have many miles of relaxed cruising in yours!

It's rude to talk about money!
But,
How much did you pay?
Before I tell you, bear in mind two points:But,
How much did you pay?
1. Luxury cars are MUCH more expensive here than in the UK (due to high taxes). A new S350 CDI is the equivalent of GBP135,000
2. Such cars tend to depreciate less here. A 2008 S320 CDI is still worth approx. GBP60,000
I paid approx. GBP12,000 (about the same as a new Fiesta 1.6 Petrol). I think it is a fair price in this market for such a rare car.

Thanks everyone, I'm very much looking forward to picking it up next week. I guess Aussie W126's were quite highly specced compared to the UK and Europe. If I recall correctly they all had burr walnut, climate control, and Becker radio/cassette. I was thinking about finding a set of the correct 15" alloys for it, but maybe I should leave it as is...

Look at the relief on that steering wheel! Untouched.snotrag said:
