Help! Need ideas for honeymoon in Harrogate!

Hi everyone - I am getting married in a week and on the night of the 21st am going to stay at Rudding Park in Harrogate for a night...
The meal and breakfast is included in the package but I need to think of something else to do during the day or my 'wife' will complain that no thought has gone in to it!
So far I am thinking go for a drink in Bettys and maybe go and paint a pot here:

Apart from them I am pretty stumped. Is there anything we really should do/see whilst we are there?

I am sure you are aware that York is not too far. Again, possibly the best place to spend the day in the region.
If you are feeling like do something outdoors, then perhaps head over to Ilkley Moor and have lunch at the 'cow and the calf'

I am sure you are aware that York is not too far. Again, possibly the best place to spend the day in the region.

The OH loves going for treatments at the Turkish baths in Harrogate. Something like that?

You need look no further than Harrogate, one of the very nicest towns in the country, I think THE nicest.
As has been said the Turkish Baths are wonderful for relaxing. There are lots of lovely shops and galleries to look around.
Also, as you say, cream tea or lunch at Betty's is a must. Don't be put off by the queue outside. You may have to wait fifteen mins or so but it's worth it. Insist on the piano lounge on the middle floor with all the side windows - ground floor is just a coffee shop atmosphere and "downstairs" is nice but windowless.
Lots of little antigue type shops around the Montpellier Quarter (behind the Montpellier pub) at the bottom of the hill to the left of Betty's.
A nice walk through Valley Gardens (which has a nice cafe half way up).
We live here and tomorrow we are going to have just a nice decadent Harrogate day. Get dressed up nicely, wonder round the shops, collect Louise's Black Tie & Pie dress, go to Betty's for afternoon tea, go to a couple of bars, have a few cocktails, then an early doors dinner at Restaurant Bar and Grill. Thoroughly looking forward to it

Harlow Carr Gardens? Turkish Baths sound good. As someone else said Knaresborough is great, on a nice day though! In the morning park up near the castle. Enjoy the view from the castle, walk down the many steps to the river, have a stroll down riverside, maybe take a rowing boat up the Nidd, then pop across the road to Conyngham Hall and have a round of pitch and putt. In the afternoon pop across to Harrogate for lunch and an amble round the Crown Hotel/Cold Bath Road/Montpellier boutiques and bars before walking up into Valley Gardens.

Oh, there is also Harlow Carr Gardens a few mins drive up Otley Road if you are into that sort of thing. It is a RHS venue and also has a Betty's, though not as nice as the original in town.
burriana pretty much sums up a nice day in Harrogate for me there - as long as you avoid the generic High St area and stick to the older stuff it's hard to argue with it as a nice place to be. Even more so if you can spend some time in Bettys stuffing your face and drinking nice coffee (I don't do tea).

We went to Atlantis in Dubai 2 months ago for our proper "honeymoon" beacuse I am too busy with work to go in May so am doing this as an extra treat for her after the wedding.
I will look into the baths and will definitely request to be in the piano lounge at Bettys!

You've never left North Yorkshire, have you?
However, as well travelled as you I may not be, so I can only compare it to the likes of Cheltenham, Leamington Spa, Bath and the likes. Oh, and in some Country Homes type survey a while back Harrogate was voted as the most desirable place in the country to live, so I'm obviously not alone. But that's just my opinion

Well, I've been there - and I think it's pretty dismal.Mind you, so is Cheltenham, and I don't think much of Bath either.
Well, all I can say is you have a strange idea of dismal. Either that or you went on a particularly damp, cold, grey, dark day. Even then it's still pretty nice. Not every town can boast being surrounded by open, mown grassland on three sides.
All these shots are taken within five minutes stroll from the town centre. Dismal?

I lived in London for 5 years, New York for a year, Boston and Cape Cod for a year, London for another 3 years and 3 years ago moved to North Yorkshire (for 2/3 weeks a month at least when working).
It took some getting used to. There are literally a million things you can't get/do here but, overall, it is pretty damned good. Harrogate is a great little town with good places to eat, drink, stroll and misc other gentlemanly activities.
I'm still undecided on whether I'll stay, being surrounded by fields is a strange experience, but so far so good.
