280i Wheel nuts??
Discussion
Hi peeps..This is turning ou to be another one of those going round in circles moments...I ordered a set of M12X 1.5mm and guess what..They didnt fit..A guy at the tyre place placed a bit into the original nut and it looks like an 11.5mm..Does ANYONE know the exact size of the thread used, It would of been a lot simpler if they stuck with the ford studs...Cheers..Ziga
Just wondering if these are the right ones?

Zig,
Is there a friendly engineering place near you ??
I'm asking because good places will have a set of "thread gauges" which are designed to indicate what the thread pitch of any bolt (or stud) is, and then armed with micrometer they should be able to confirm diameter...
I'll try to get mine tested here in NZ and will post the result...they are obviously not standard M12 after all ...

Cheers chaps..RT and rimmers do have what are i think the correct type but tomorrow i might venture out to Erith as there are some breakers yards out there which are divided into particular cars..Austin, Ford, Vauxhall, Rover..etc so i might be able to try a selection of various wheel nuts until i can establish what they are..Cheers..Ziga
PS; i Have a very shiny set of M12X 1.5mm wheel nuts if anyone wants them half price??..

If you have no luck tomorrow I should have found the details of the ones if fiited on the wifes 280i and my 350i
So unless you have a strange set of nuts then we should be able to help you!
When you do get sorted it it will mean even more bits to polish and less time for rusties!

That is true mate...When the wheels get refurbed next week sometime i will have even more to polish as im having the outer rim diamond polished and no lacquer as the lacquer can chip and oxidise and start looking nasty..so i will have to keep the wheels clean!..So it looks like its not only me nuts ill be polishing!!..If you do find the info that would be cool as its still hit and miss wether i will find ones that fit tomorrow...Cheers..Ziga
PS:Rusty is ok in its right place and right time..i:e The BBWF..All weekend..

Zig,
I have a suggestion .... your studs might be 7/16 UNF imperial !!! ....read on.....
I measured my Tasmin studs and they are M12 x 1.5
However, I had a look around my shed and all those bits I didn't throw away...
the Vixens and M series (TR6 hubs) used 7/16 UNF studs, and I compared one of my spares to the Tas...
7/16 UNF would give an approx metric equivalent of 11.25 x 1.25 (7/16 UNF is 20 teeth per inch) which sort of tallies with what you were saying....
I've no idea if those Triumph studs actually fit into Granny/Tasmin hubs, but wouldn't be all that surprised ... Triumph 2000/2500 saloons used these studs too ...

Thanks Andy..That does sound about right, I went to howlfrauds yesterday and the guy in there measured one of my wheel nuts that has the end missing and it came up near 11.30 which would suggest it is more likely to be 11.25...CheersSteve..That is a great idea, Im having a job emailing you from PH so if you could email me direct i will pass on my address...Cheers..
Thanks to everyone...Ziga
Hi Peeps..Well just to confirm that the M12 X 1.5mm wheel nuts DO fit..Some numpty has used slightly smaller ones and thats what was confusing the issue...However when i went to the tyres fitters this morning he was measuring the thread with some tap and die bits..By chance i said let me try a nut on the stud to see..They fitted..
..Cheers..Ziga..
PS:Steve i will send the nut back to you, Can you email me your address please..Unless i still have the envelope..
