Hyundai Coupe any good?
Discussion
I had the V6,its the only one to have, sounds great. It goes well enough not fast and not that economical but its a nice shape(squint and its a ferrari)lots of kit but the only thing that lets it down is the gearbox, shifts ok but finding a gear when its so closely stacked together was a lottery.
For the money tho you can't beat them

The 2.0 engine is out of a Mitsubishi Evo, the turbo bits will fit back on if you're into modifying.
I highly doubt that will work out easily, unless the coupe has a dismally low compression ratio, it will need rather serious internals work before you can turbo it to Evo levels.EDLT said:

Really - surely the NA is high compression and the Turbo low compression - probably same block, but I would guess its pushing to say same engine. Maybe wrong i'm sure someone will put me right if I am.Edit ...someone beat me to it
2.6 is thirsty and even for the time was a bit low powered (can't compare with todays cars), shape is nice, My dad had 2 2ltr ones on the trot with no issues

I have had the V6 for for 5 years\50k. It has been a very good car for me.
It is nice to drive, and I find the seat very confortable. You might struggle for head room if you have a long body.
I think it looks amazing alongside most other run of the mill cars. Maybe only the 406 coupe is better looking in the non exotic coupe class?
The only thing to look out for in the fly wheel\clutch. If you can find a 4 year old car with 1 year warrenty left and a new clutch\flywheel\cambelt, then it will be a massive bargain IMHO.

I thought about a V6 some years ago, but the performance over the 2.0 litre was pretty disappointing (well, just disappointing for a near 3.0 litre V6 really).
My BIL has had a couple (both versions) and loved them both, but I don't think he's a very enthusiastic driver. Not a bad place to be from my limited experience, but probably not particularly rewarding to drive.

Hyundai's have been receiving pretty good write ups over the last 5/6 years.
The overall build quality is very good. Compared to the crap they were putting out when they first came onto the scene it's like night and day.
Personally though, I wouldn't go anywhere near any Korean car manufacturer but I am a car snob.

It makes about 130hp iirc, compression won't be that high. The Americans have been bolting turbos to the 2.0 engine for years.Gassing Station | General Gassing | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
