Ive been thinking about buying a bargey shed (e36/xj6?)in summer, then driving to the Nurburgring, then going to Amsterdam for 5-7 days before coming home and selling the car for roughly what it cost.

The main problem is trying to get insurance for 1 month (or less) as an 18 year old (1 year experience), any tips? Is anything else making this a non starter or ridiculously expensive?

Cheers

I dont have any comments on insurance, but as for the drive to the ring and amsterdam, give the car a good checkup before doing that, especially if you plan on lapping the ring, or doing a high speed run on the autobahn, you dont want anything breaking down on a long trip, never mind when doing very serious speed on the highway/track.

You could pay for insurance monthly then cancel when you get back. You'll be charged a cancellation fee though. European breakdown cover might be a good idea. Also, you will not be insured to drive on the Nurburgring look at how much you can be paying if your shed dumps oil/coolant on the track.

If your already insured with the elephant give them a call and tell them your car has broken and you need however many weeks temporery insurance. They'll insure the ropey e36 alongside your current car whilst you "get it fixed" for very cheap. I know this as I've just got a quite on a e36 328i. The only difference being my car has genuinly broken down and I was looking for a banger to put me on laugh

To answer your inital "good idea?" its probably not the best, but do it anyway. You'll most likely learn lots along the way and it'l be great fun thumbup

I was thinking of doing something like this. Only around France for a couple of weeks though, was looking at convertable BMW something like a E36. Hope some good advice comes along!

Sorry for the post hijack, hope the trip goes well.
