I'm having bad thoughts about getting something daft, just for 12 months to say I've done it.

I can get the money to buy the car but I must get a good bit back at the end of the 12 months,

Ferrari 360 - £40k

Insurance - £800

Fuel over 5k miles - £1800

Consumables - £1200

Service - £1200

Depreciation - £5k or end sale price £35k

Thoughts?

A fantastic idea idea if you can afford to - do it. May be tough to walk away in 12-months time though...

Agree, if you're careful and only keep it for a year depreciation will be minimal. May even go the other way?

Would it really lose 5k in a year and 5k extra mileage? I would have thought a car like that would have already done the bulk of it's depreciation by £40k... Then again I have absolutely no idea. smile

I'm pretty sure you wouldn't lose 5k in a year by only adding 5k miles, a 40k 360 is at the lower end of the market but I saw a 40k 36 recently and couldn't really fault it. Just buy wisely and it's definately doable, but as others have said parting with it in a year after you've had the taste of a Ferrai will be the difficult bit biggrin

Dont know what UK prices are doing on ferrari's but here 40k (or 55k euro) wouldnt really find you a whole lot of 360s, a decent 355 perhaps, and a whole load of 308/328/348s

If your objective is to do this without losing lots of money i'd suggest finding a ferrari which has had a boatload of maintenance lately, rather then finding a cheap 360. If something goes bang on those cars, youll be losing money hand over fist.

I like your thinking, you only live once and you can't drive money.

When you say nearly 200 do you mean 180?

In that case my 120d does nearly 170mph.

Good plan but my money would be on a 550 Maranello rather then a 360.

What do you want it for?

A similar budget would take you hill climbing for a year or two

You'll need to buy carefully to minimise depreciation as the dealer mark up for sale price and trade values are a long way apart. Could easily see most of that 10k walking out the door if you bought from a dealer and needed to shift it in 12 months.
