I was skimming through the car related stuff on MSN and saw an article about cars most likely to pass or fail the first MOT they do, and I was VERY pleasantly surprised to see:

1 Aston Martin Vantage 2007 - 91%
The 2007 Aston Martin Vantage is the car most likely to pass its MOT first time round. The acclaimed British V8 sports car boasts a superb pass rate of 91 per cent - beating all other cars sold in the UK. It is a credit to both Aston Martin and its fastidious supercar owners.

It came out TOP so every credit to AM for that. The DB9 was 9th after the Cayman, Boxster and Bently Continental, so not bad for that too!

Well done AM smile

What an odd statistic. I'm surprised that the percentage wasn't higher. I wonder what the 9% failed on after only a couple of years...

I'm afraid mine was in the 9%. Headlight alignment!

I had a fail a few years back on my Mini JCW.

  1. The side indicator was not as orange as it should have been
  2. The rear plate was not quite straight
it took me 5 minutes to fix. The indicator was the bulb lacquer had gone crispy and started to fall off. The number plate was about 10mm off on one side, required loosening the screw and moving slightly.

So MOT failures can happen on very trivial things.

I'd like to see what the Garages local VOSA man would have made of that one... No 'reason for rejection' that comes anywhere near that one

Slacker you need to reconsider who you use for this test - I would ditch anyone who failed my mots on the girls cars for such ridiculous reasons.

I suppose it comes down to having a good relationship with a garage and knowing that they will fix these things in advance smile

I still can't believe that anywhere that is responsible for testing the car is also allowed to carry out the repairs. Seems like a licence to print money to me.

I'm thinking of other countries I know where testers only inspect the cars, never carry out repairs (not allowed to).

I've had friends receive failures through all sorts of nonsense.

The last one was the Hazard switch was a little sticky... SO WHAT !!!

Check the rule book and as long as the hazard switch functions and all 4 corners and repeaters flash at the same time and the tell tale light inside works then it's a pass. (obviously worded differently but the same means to an end)

and also failing brake discs for being beyond wear limit when they were no where close and it was just a case of the tester feeling a rusty ridge on the edge with his fingers.....

Many MOT testers make mistakes and yet they literally can hold a car's future in their hands.
