Hi there

After a pair of front disc ideally from a 997.1 turbo or GT3, size I believe is 350x34mm, so if anyone has any new or used they want to shift please give a shout.

Also what pads do people recommend that won't fade or are the Porsche 997 turbo pads ok even with track use?

If you want reliable track performance pads than go for Pagid RS29's. Not cheap and will take their toll on standard discs.

If track is your thing then consider PF/Alcon disc setup with RS29's and Castrol SRF fluid.

I have PCCBs on my Turbo and the standard pads are great on track.

Why are you be looking to buy used discs/pads where you don't know their history (if you don't mind me asking?).

As I'm removing my Ceramics as the fronts are getting shot from track work, so need steels. I'm happy to buy new as well.

RS29s are maybe too much then. In a perfect world I'd like a low/no dust pad, no squealing, no fade and the use will be fast road and maybe couple of track days per year. Does such a pad exist? I read something about PF carbote h or something, are those available?

interesting, i thought they'd sorted the premature wear thing with the 997 ceramic discs?

I'd advocate the PF discs and the 06 or 08 compound pads. Long lasting and reasonable.

I have an old pair of 350mm PF discs which are almost shot but the bells are good so could have the disc part only replaced and perhaps save a few quid. I also have a a set of PF01 pads which are about 15% worn, these are a little more aggressive than the 06 or 08 and hence make some dust, nothing like the std pad tho. PM if any interest.

But, you have PCCB so you can (have to) go 380mm, which is not a bad thing! You can use a cup disc, alcons, PF etc. I have seen and been recommended the cup disc and Endless pad combo as fantastic. High initial cost for the pads but last for a long long time.

My ceramics are 350mm all round as a C2S

06 and 08 pads sound good, are the stock 997 turbo pads prone to fade and high dust then?

Gibbo,

I've heard some good things about Girodisc, lighter and supposedly more durable than most, the yanks seem to be using them to good effect. http://www.rss.rpmware.com/girodisc/girodisc_perfo...

Ken at Nine Excellence is using them on some of his faster Turbo creations and he might be able to advise / source at a reasonable price?

Well I think we have tried just about every combination. Our requirement was the ability to brake from high speeds 200mph+ from cold and fast track/road use.

The best combination which is what we fit now is Girodiscs + Pagid 29s. The Girodiscs are also lighter and larger 350mm instead of 330mm. They are more expensive (around £1500+vat for all four corners) but they last twice as long. Whilst PF worked very well, we have suffered from pad smear, gradual cracks etc.

It is the only thing we fit now to our fast turbos. Also even if you go for something else, don't bother with drilled and grooved, just get grooved.

Have not tried Alcons, so cannot comment on that. There was a recent mag article re a customer who competes in one of the racing series in USA with a gt3 rs40. He runs Girodiscs only.

I have been looking at the same issues.
Need to replace the GT3 brakes.

Giro disc do seem the best value over Alcon.
PF seem a nice option but their pads are all nasty paint ruin dust monsters, and no other pads fit unless you grind them.
Oem disc and rs29 seem the best bet though if you are mainly doing just fast road with 2 track days.
£600 for a pair and the rears 1/2 that price.

OPC seems the best place to buy discs and pads from also, I have spent 5 days phoning and mailing the main 10 porsche shops and motor sport shops and you may as well buy from your OPC and ask for discount.
1/2 the places I phoned could not find the right parts, the other 1/2 were more expensive.

The only good service I got was from Porsche a part. So top marks to them.
As for the Uk giro disc reseller, I got know where, then giro disc don,t do Porsche direct, then I had to deal with RSS.
I gave up with giro disc after that.

The worst place and service was Motorsport world. What a insulting sales manager, got no where, false promise about prices, and when I said do you not want to sell any pads. His reply was "if you cannot afford OPC prices you should drive a Ford" so the biggest wker goes to Gary at Motorsport world.

The only other disc which looks ok is DBA but I cannot find any one who uses them so ruled those out also.

People rule out OPC's but their pricing is getting better, warranty is better , service is 2nd to none (at Leicester)
And I see they have just drooped service pricing on 986 models quite a lot.

Not true really. PF 06 and 08 are absolutely fine.

Ken showed me the Giro-disc recently and it looks like a very nice item, speak to him if you want to go that route, you'll get top service.... the PF discs will work with RS29 cup car pads by the way, straight fit.

Who is Ken.

I bought every Porsche mag, and looked at every website from all the adverts.

If places have Giro in stock they need to shout about it.
I just cannot believe a car like a GT3 is so hard to find bits for.

Even which part number a rs29 pad is seems crazy hard to sort out, and then what a Pagid p90 pad is.

Ken must admit they look very nice! I am guessing a set of these is rather expensive though?

If you were to recommend pads to use with the STD OPC 350mm turbo disc for low dust/noise but ok for track use what would you recommend and be able to supply please?
