Hey guys,
Just purchased my first DSLR, a refurbished Canon 550D with a sigma 17-70 lens, have got the lens the wi-fi mem card but the camera body has yet to arrive (apparently tomorrow) but am dead excited to get up and running and start learning all about it. I have bought the camera mainly to take some better shots of all my products on ebay and my webshop, but i'd also like to get out and about and start photographing things that are happening in my life and around me. Its amazing how a well captured shot can turn the mundane into something incredible.
Do you guys have any excellent beginners guides for first time DSLR owners, and especially guides that are aimed at close up product shots?
Cheers!

I'd suggest learning about the basics of photography so you have a firm understanding about what settings do what, that way when you are learning about product photography you'll know what they mean if they start talking f-stops and shutter speed

Seemingly the default answer to the 'new to photography' question is the book 'Understanding Exposure' by Bryan Peterson (it's currently £10 on amazon) it's well regarded and should give you a solid grounding into the different elements that go into taking a photograph.
To be honest, I've never done any product photography, but if you are going to be doing a lot of it I would imagine you're going to sort out a good lighting / small studio setup.
I've seen portable 'light boxes' - basically small enclosures that allow you to easily illuminate the products - even seen some tutorials on making your own from a cardboard box - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z1bAh193Iwc
You could also try just searching for 'product photography' on YouTube, lots of free tutorial videos there

Hope this helps.
Hey guys,
No camera today, bit disappointing.
Set up my Wi-fi SD card tho and stuck it in my point and shoot, wow! It literally uploads photo's to my computer within 5 seconds of taking the shot! Pretty damn impressed with it. This should save me a lot of time from going and backwards and forward hooking the camera up to the comp to check if the photo came out alright.
I have a couple of light tents, lights and a tripod from when I used my compact.
Current photo's: http://www.t7design.co.uk/ebay/ebay_images/xmitsub...
What I am hoping to achieve: http://www.t7design.co.uk/images/IMG_1128.jpg
