Mx5 values have dropped like a stone in the last year or so...depressing if you already own one, but fortunate for those that don't yet!

I have just bought a 04 68k FSH UK in black cherry mica - £2200
not in mint condition but the cloth roof is like new as is the interior, couple of marks on the body
apart from that its ok, and it has new tyres/discs/pads all round and full mot
prefer the S2000 though!

When you say not in mint condition, whats wrong with it?

Seems like a cracker of a deal if nothing serious.

Interestingly Mk1s/Eunos seem to be holding or maybe even slightly increasing in value. smile

nothing serious
just a few light scratches
had been parked under a tree, green line round the base of the hood and around the lights
not been washed/polished often
but it looks good

looking at the receipts they had been stung on mots and a few jobs - £450 for discs and pads

That's pretty good then. I thought I'd got a good deal on an 04 that needed work (pads/discs and service mainly) but for £700 less and with the brakes done, yours is a proper bargain! Do you know - were the replacement discs/pads OEM?

I don't know, I doubt they are Mazda OEM, wherever the garage that did the MOT get there parts from, local motor suppliers

On these cars i don't think you have any problems with stuff on ebay
I have used £60 discs on cars without issues and have some on our daily car

The Mk1 is an iconic design - especially now pop-up lights are effectively banned by current legislation.

The Mk2 is a bit bland, the front end looks like every other Mazda of the era, so it's not so desirable.

Early Mk2s also seem to have more rot issues than Mk1s, which also doesn't help.

I would say that's quite an average price, plenty for sale around the 2k mark.

Agree with the guy who says mk1's seem to be going up - i was surprised at how few there were in the classifieds at "bargain" parices - more and more seem to be being priced higher and higher.

Its inevitable really. the mk1's are over 20 years old now, so maybe we are at the point where the only ones are still around and havent rusted away are cherished items.

yes Mk1's are starting to go up, IMO better made than the mk2, i bought a 10AE a year ago and discovered it was rotten, got shot of it and its still on ebay! blue 10ae VRN ends with DBD, i reckon it lived in the bloody sea!
