I've got a Renault Clio 182 that came fitted with a "RS192 CAT BACK SYSTEM" - see http://www.rs192.co.uk/page1.htm for full details.

They claim: "We did not want any intrusive exhaust noise to penetrate into the car. We believe the typical Clio 182 driver, is a more mature enthusiast who would not appreciate a loud boomy exhaust." Complete rubbish. It's very loud and very boomy - so much so that my ears were ringing for 24 hours after a 250 mile motorway trip!

A full Renault cat back system will set me back about £850 in total so I'm wanting to avoid this if at all possible.

Would it be possible to quieten / silence my RS192 system? If so how good would the results likely be and how much would you expect to pay for this? If anyone's got any recommendations of a company in the North East that would be able to do this it'd be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks!

If you have that system, with 3 largish silencers, I'd find it hard to believe it's that noisy.

You could perhaps have more silencers added, or try and fit some sort of restrictor at the tailpipes.

First off get the car in the air and inspect for any leaks or rubbing on the bodywork.

It's a case of not being able to have everything and at reasonable cost;

SS exhausts are thin and light therefore noisy.

Free flowing silencers make more power and are light, but are noisy.

Steel systems are heavier, perhaps less power output have a shorter life as they rust, but are quieter.
Ditto restrictive silencers.

If you want EVERYTHING be prepared for a large bill, everything is available.

At cost.....

Decibell tubes (jetex do them), but they would be difficult to fit if the tail pipe exits at an angle to the silencer box.....

First thing to do is to see what, if any material is left in the silencers.
Assuming that what was there has been lost, I would suggest getting the cans opened and repacked.

Inserts and such will most likely only rob you of any gains had by fitting the system in the first place.

At less than 200bhp, Im sure you could put a pretty small restrictor up each tailpipe and it would still have adequate flow.

Made by Scorpion. They have a tendancy to drone as I've had their systems on other cars in the past. Must just be a crappy grade Stainless that's also thinner than usual.
