MX5OC? Don't rush a purchase due to emotions though, you could end up with a lemon!

Couldn't see any on there either the trouble is her car is due an mot soon and car tax which will easily cost £400 and her car is only worth £500.

That sounds very specific. I don't think you'll find too many exactly like that. I've seen a lot of MX5s over the last 14 years but only one like that.

Found one and bought it today. It was pure luck just happened to drive by one sitting on someones drive. It's light blue 2002 1.6 with black leather, MOT and TAX 96k fsh £2000 because there is a small dent in the bonnet and a small amount of rust on the seals nr the rear wheelarches. Is that as good as it sounds or did I just make a mistake?

rust on sills is quite a major issue with mx5's a bit of research would have told you this.

Yes I did research this and it seems to be that finding one without is hard which is why I wasn't too worried, bearing mind the price compared to other cars we looked. Basically with the money we saved I am going to get that fixed by a bodyshop.

Sills is a big job, they rust from inside out so if anything is visible on the surface it's much worse underneath.
If you're in the south, Garath the MX5 restorer is the man you need but it won't be cheap. But if you can afford it and the misses is happy then good result! The way I see it even if major work needs doing, at least you know afterwards it has been done and will be good for many years.

That's what I was thinking she does 5k a year if she is lucky so if I get it sorted out it should last around 8 years which is what we are aiming for. Assuming petrol doesn't run out or any of life surprises doesn't happen.

Someone will come along and say how they bought a later car with higher spec that was rust free for less money but while these bargains do exist they are few and far between. In reality you probably bought that at about the right price.

Cheers good to know the only problem is I almost want one myself now but I am not sure I am brave enough to go from 4 seats to 2 and a small boot.
