I have been doing a lot of thinking recentley about my car and if I was to change it,, what would i go for??

The answer is, I cannot see anything else I would rather have than my Vantage!!! Dont get me wrong, if a euro mill win, then would have a fleet of exotcs... I have looked at 430's Lambo's, other Astons etc....

The thing is if I am sat in my vantage, then I jump out and straight into a DB9 or DBS, other than the trim upgrades etc, its like being sat in the same car...

I dropped my car off yesterday at Trinity for a service, and as usual wandering around the workshops dribbling over classic DB5's & having a chat with Tim about his Classic V8 (which is an amazing looking car).

I thought how cool to have the car you always wanted and to keep it until it becomes a classic..
In my mind that is very cool...

Some people have made the jump from the V8V to the V12V0r DBS for the power and difference in the drive etc... But with all the upgrades and mods now available, maybe the costs involved and depreciation on a newer car, maybe more viable to upgrade things over a period of time... And if your car is forever keeps, then theres no rush with it all!!

I was looking at the DBS Ultimate yesterday
http://cars.uk.msn.com/news/new-aston-martin-dbs-u...
and it is stunning, the most impressing feature of the car in my opinion is the interior...
Again, something that could be done... A bespoke retrim... Probably the best part of 5K??? but sod it, 5 years time, 1K a year saved, no rush not selling the car....

Again, want more power? lots of engine upgrades available, just look at Jessica and Yeti's car!! Why on earth would ether of them want to change????

To sum it up, unless I end up in the gutter or my business goes down the pan, I hope to be able to keep the stealth indeffinateley!!

Anyone else on here planning to keep theirs for life?????

Yep - kind of reached the same conclusion - it's the one ! The only thing that would change my mind is a poor ownership experience courtesy of over priced servicing , aluminium rust etc becoming a major problem or the like . I paid 96k for mine 6 years ago - a fact which slightly horrifies me looking at today's value - but I find it hard to believe there is another car out there I would want to both give up my Aston for and fork out another say £50k for .

Thanks Burntout, I now need to stop Molly reading this! You do make a very good case though.

Hartley says it all , that ally rust issue is a real bug bear for me , but otherwise a lovely car. I have a lambo itch which will need attending to , but i imagine i'll regret it and be back for more at aston. Unless the new DBS is something very special of course ...................

I bought mine with the intention of keeping it forever, as well as a few other select cars that I would like to acquire. I'd like to do it Jay Leno style, but have more modest means (by some considerable margin!).

I will recount my V8V experience, which may upset some other Aston owners! But honesty is the best policy!
I had always had in mind getting a sports car when the time was right and had always loved Ferrari (let me finish!!!).
So the time came to start the search and was looking at 360 v 430 and in the process found myself going to a track day to drive said cars. Having driven both and loved both I went back to the car park to go home and that's when it happened. A silver vantage pulled in and took my breath away! And it gathered a small crowd. I thought the DB9s looked too long and the DB7 wishywashy. But the Vantage is probably the best looking car I hadve seen. From that moment I knew I would get one and keep it until my daisy pushing days!!
Apologies to all DB9/7 owners I have mortally wounded!

When I got Jessica at that point it wasnt in my mind that "this might be the one" but as i spent more time with/in her I just knew that as much as I might want to drive and own various other marques I just knew that I would end up selling them. I love the fact that I have great practicality and now real porsche beating performance ! Without sounding to much like a cliche the journey has been a joy and have really bonded with Jessica.
For me If I feel the need to drive a Ferrari or Lamborghini I will do a track day rather than selling just to regret it further down the road. There's few marques which get under your skin quite like an Aston Martin .

Yes, my Vanquish is a keeper. I can't ever see myself wanting to part with it. There are others in the stable that'll go long before it does.

Bought and imported to Martinique my DB9 in april 2010 as keeper as I always tought it is the most beautiful car of the modern era. Then in january 2012 I saw an advert for a lightly crash damaged DB7V,as it was the first AM that made me dream of ever owning one,I bought it unseen over the phone and embarqued in the process of reconditioning it with the help of a friend who owns a bodyshop. To add dificulties the car is in France and I live in the French West Indies 5000 miles away, the hunt for cheap parts was a good part of creating a strong bond with the car.She is now completed and ever if only used a few weeks per year I could not imagine selling her.I would love to add to my small collection a classic V8,a DB2/4 and a DB4/5/6.

Well both my sons have claimed mine as part of their inheritance. Needless to say I'll have to think up 7 challenges or tasks to make it interesting for them wink

Mines a keeper, I saw a Ferrari today (very rare where I am) and yes a lovely car, but I have never had an itch for one. Nor a Lambo or Porker. Mrs Steve was delighted to hear that!

Never even considered it with my V8V. However the DBS is a different story. Once I have retrimmed the interior and had BM work their magic on the manifolds it will be pretty much perfection in my eyes. Very fortunate to have had all the others and I do regret selling the Countach but that's more from a financial point of view.

This one is a keeper yes

I have been a bit of a car tart, swapping every two or three years. The DBS is just perfect for me, though. I think it may well be a keeper.

I think my feelings are well known on the subject!

I don't expect I will part with mine at any time. By the time the work I have in my head is complete, I won't ever want for another car. It will have more power than I could ever use and has the handling to match. Some nicer/more luxurious leather would be good and I have a few ideas for some LARGE styling changes so I will keep tinkering with it... That's how I never get bored wink

I always have that thought after I am pulling into the garage after a nice drive. But by now, I don't kid myself. I've uttered the "never sell" refrain before and have always ended up selling.

Just too many interesting cars to be had.

Unless finances take a turn for the worse, Mines a keeper, I love the car, and the fact that it is one of the first, makes it better in my mind.

I agree with this fully. There are just far too many cars that I want to own at some point for me to keep the Aston even as much as I love it. Now when I get a V8 V600 LM it will be kept forever smile

I had let the itch to change get the better of me, test driving DBS, Murci, CGT Supersports etc but couldnt decide what to go for as nothing had the quite the same combined presence, sound and usability .... so decided I'd put my Vanquish up for sale and take it from there.

... agreed a sale with the seond guy to view pending an inspection at an AM Main Dealer, but then started having second thoughts about what to get next or if I should be selling it at all.

Inspection found a minor oil leak, so booked car into BR to get fixed which took a few weeks to get sorted, then a few days before it was going in, it suddenly wouldn't start.

Then the buyer then called saying he'd bought another car, which I was genuinely quite cruft and relieved about ... so it's now getting some real "loving" with new dampers, new bushes, new tyres, new starter motor, new windscreen seals, new wiper arms, new battery, new PAS pump, and hopefully I'll be getting it back in next few days ... It's been sorely missed over the last 4 weeks!!

My 5yr old daughter said "the Astum (as she calls it) wouldn't start because it didn't want to leave us daddy" ha ha ... It's the first time it's ever played up, so it's a fair argument hehe

Now thinking of getting it wrapped in pearl white, so it "feels" like enough of a different car to quash the itch, but I've missed the car so much I can't see it going anywhere for a good while!

I love my V8V, and I always thought it would be fun to keep it a very long time. I would be interested in the new/next generation of Astons, but given that the new DBS/Vanquish/whatever-they-call-the-310 is rumored to be auto-only, it is looking MUCH more likely that I'll be keeping my manual-'box V8V for a very long time. Auto-only means I am not a buyer. mad
