Hi everyone,

My car had an amber service light pop up a month ago. I took it to Sytners who said the front brakes needed changing in 1000 miles but the service was not due for 10k miles or April 2013.

Based on this information I assumed the service light was linked to the brake pads and had the front brake pads changed just before its MOT last week.

Now the service light has turned red and keeps appearing every time I turn on the car.

I have looked online and have seen there is a separate brake warning light...so why on earth is the service light coming up!?

Any ideas anyone?

Had a similar thing on mine. It can also come on to remind of the MOT, and if it wasnt reset then it could be that?

Is there a way to find out what the light is coming on for - like a detailed sub menu or something?

If you go into the service info menu you can see what each of the service elements are, front and rear brakes, fluids, oil, mot etc....The MOT light is reset by the garage after they do the work.

From experience it is useful to check that the garage resets lights before you leave. They have forgotten to do this before. Always check what you have had the reset done.

How do you get in to that menu? I just have the rev counter above the wheel with the tiny screen and not a sat nave screen...TYIA!

On the indicator stalk you have a button on the tip of it. If you press it repeatedly you will see the menu on the little screen on the rev counter change. Once you get to the service info menu, press and hold the button for a few seconds. This will take you in to the sub menu. Once in press the same button on the indicator stalk repeatedly and that will take you to the different elements, brakes, fluids and mot. Depending on item you have either a mileage reading of remaining before replacement or date of next service action. The ignition has to be on and the vehicle static.

Hope this helps. All the best
