Trolley jack experts

Anyone an expert on these things?
Mine no longer fully extends, it will pump up as normal to about half height then not go any further, I have checked the oil which appears full. It's only a cheap Halfords one (about 4 years old now) is it time to buy a new one or could I do some simple maintenance?

Sounds like you need to bleed it.Whether you can do that with the Halfords one I'm not sure. You can with the Sealey one we have, but that's pretty expensive. It may be easier to get a new one.

I've got a halfords trolley jack, about 8 years old now, and I'm sure you can bleed it, although I never have. I don't have the instructions any more either.

Funny enough, I was using it last night and noticed that it takes a lot more pumping before it goes up (sigh...) so I was going to ask much the same question today - I think mine just needs refilled, after all this time - it's age, you know...

If you can wait till tonight, my old jack fell to bits, and I replaced it with one from Machine Mart, which is a whole lot better. I'll post the reference number later for you.

Just buy another, my father has 4 stacked up in the grage at the moment, only one of which actually still works...

They are all a load of rubbish IME, anybody know of a trolley jack that has a low base, extends high and won't give up after a year?

It has some basic instructions on a sticker on the jack but they don't cover bleeding. I am tempted to ditch it and get a new better qulaity one - I very much liked the aluminium one at Pistonfest..

Most are rebuildable with new seals etc...I have done this to a couple but they normally give up the ghost again pretty soon...
Throw it away and buy another 15 quid one..or if you are a serious user invest in a decent one..
Sealey are v good IMHO...

Right, then, my new jack is a clarke "CTJ2LR".

I got a Clarke CTJ2250LS because it has one of the lowest profiles allowing it to slide under the Griff without any problems. Rich...
