Damaged Exhaust - Advice Needed

I bought a rear silencer new from an online seller and it arrived with damage from transport, a nasty looking dent. Can i expect this to affect the car much? Nothing is rattling inside (yet). I've been offered a replacement (hassle) or I can make the seller am offer for a some money off. Im not sure how much to ask off. What would you do?

Don't bother re-making the thread, I'm sure a mod will update the title for you.

With regards to the silencer, I sincerly doubt that the damage would make it not function as was/is intended. If it were me, I'd stick it on the car and if the seller offered some form of discount I'd accept.

Is that dent not just the sort of thing you could pick up by driving over some random rock in the road.

I’d guess the exhaust is designed to deal with stuff like that.

I was leaning this way but was after some opinions on whether that damage is bad enough to affect the car. I need to make an offer on the discount as well, and I don't want to take the mick with a low ball. Initially I thought a 3rd off.

yep as everyone else has said the exhaust would/culd pick up damage like that very easily once on the car.

me, I'd probably just get it fitted and tell the guy that sold it not to bother with any money back to me (would probably only be a few pounds anyway)..

Check it fits too. I paid £37 for a silencer from a local motor factor and it was so bad, it was laughable and fell off so I paid £40 for a stainless silencer delete pipe to be welded in instead. I binned the crappo one - lesson learnt.

I think that's probably a bit much. How much was it? I'd be looking for 10-15%, depending on valuve, as long as once fitted it doesn't rattle or anything - they're made to withstand quite a lot of punishment, I doubt that'll do any harm.

Truth be known I'd just send it back and get a replacement. Easier all round.

The one i have at the moment is a crap auto factor one which is too loud. This is a genuine renault one as it had out of the factory so it definitely fits!

The way Im looking at it is yes its made to withstand some punishment but what if the same area gets another big hit? The life of it is already reduced and it is not a small dent by any means. It was £94. Its a tough one.

If it was £94 I'd either send it back or fit it and ask the bloke for £20.

If it's an OEM Renault item it will be rusting through in 2 years anyway, I wouldn't worry about a ding in it. I'd just fit it and ask for 10% back - which you are lucky to be offered anyway.
