I picked up a standard exhaust on the weekend to replace my sleeved exhaust (anybody looking for one?) until I decide what to go for next.

Is it something that can be done on axle stands relatively easily, or would it be better to take it to a garage?

It looks fairly straightforward, but if its a bit of a pain I may take it somewhere on Saturday.

Thanks

How much do you want for the sleeved exhaust mate? and is it in good condition?

Simple and straight forward, but be aware it's not a light system and you'll need to undo one side of the Rear ARB and swing it out of the way. I find it easier to then put the ARB back on so I can rest the rear of the pipe on top. (I don't mind scratching the ARB too much and can always touch it up after) this allows me to slide the front into the down pipe before inserting any mounting bolts only when all bolts are inserted and the system checked for snaggs on the chassis do I then tighten all mounts. You might need a few large(ish) washers to place under the rear pipe mounts (The little rubber donut things that isolate the expansion chambers from the chassis) this will allow you to align the tailpipes correctly so they are at equal heights.
shouldn't take long at all biggrin

Easily do able on axle stands and can be done on your own but would be a lot easier with a second pair of hands.

Thanks all.

Looks like it should be quite simple then. I'll try and try an extra pair of hands though!

Mossyboy: ill check the condition properly when I take it off, but it looks decent. I haven't really thought how much I want for it as I'm not too sure how much they go for!

About £100 seems to be the going rate and I'm sure that we didn't have to touch my anti roll bar bushes when ChimV8 was in his pit under mine when we swapped exhausts. biggrin

I would however *STRONGLY* suggest getting a new exhaust U-clamp for where the exhaust meets the Y-piece ... they rot like a biatch!

Thanks. Maybe I'll just take it down to my local garage on Saturday and let them swap them over.

As it won't take long to do it's probably worth giving them a few quid to do it properly.

By sleeved I presume you mean the centre box has been removed ?

Could you report back how much quieter it is with the std exhaust as I'm very disappointed how quiet mine is (I'm sure my 500 was twice as loud)

It's pretty damn loud at the moment, although I think my pre-cats have been removed too. I'm not sure how much effect that has on noise.

As far as I know, the perforated pipes in the silencer box are swapped for straight through pipes.

I will try and get some before and after videos.

BTW Mark - the ECU swap seems to have changed the exhaust note quite drastically it's definitely much more of a hard-edged roar...

LOL - given the anti-aircraft barrage that I used to get I think it's safe to say that it all got burned...

...it's just WHERE it was getting burned that was the variable. biggrin

(I do kinda miss them...)

Are these universal clamps, or would I need to get them online?

Clevertrevor has them for about a quid, but its 8 quid postage.
If I can't get it locally it's an excuse to get a few extra parts online!

Are you then going to get a re-map after fitting the exhaust so your not running lean etc and potentialy causing damage??

When i swapped my standard exhaust for a sleeved exhaust I seem to remember it increased the noise by 5Db
