Bus lane on Egham bypass?

This morning i noticed they have put a solid white line along the whole length of the Egham bypass between the 2 lanes.
They had the word "Lane" i think at the beginning, looking part finished so i am guessing it might be a bus lane??
Strange but i have never seen a bus along here in all my years using it.
Anyone know whats happening?
Apart from the obvious huge queue in one lane as opposed to 2, which i reckon might get back as far as to clog up the Marranello roundabout....oh joy

Its an Olympic lane, both ways for people to get to the Rowing events. And yes it caused bloody chaos today
Were drivers not using both lanes?The Olympic lanes are only valid between July 16 and September 15 according to the local council.

When the Games finish on August 12 why are the lanes in operation until September 15?

It's probably due to the Paralympic games that run till 9th September (although why it's going to be in place till 15th, I don't know!)Whoever thought up these lanes didn't think of the consequences. The Runnymede roundabout will become gridlocked, which means queues will form on all the approach roads blocking them. Those trying to avoid the queues will go through Egham town centre causing that to be gridlocked as well.
As we know from experience if there is a problem on a major road it affects a wide area.
No doubt other areas with these lanes will suffer the same consequences.
The question is why should there be special lanes? The sportspeople should do the same as the rest of us - if we have an appointment and are worried about the traffic, leave earlier!!
Does anyone know if the changes at the Runnymede Roundabout are connected to the Olympic changes?
I come from Windsor, through Runnymede, and where you used to have your own lane joining the roundabout for the M25 sliproad, you now have to stop and give way
If they are connected, then hopefully things will be put back afterwards.

I would imagine so. As I said earlier the lane runs from the royal holloway up onto the M25, therefore you need to squeeze the lane in, removing the dedicated lane from the A308 would allow it to run around the Runnymede roundabout and up and across the Thames bridge.I come from Windsor, through Runnymede, and where you used to have your own lane joining the roundabout for the M25 sliproad, you now have to stop and give way

I assume undertaking is ok since there is a solid white line down the middle. It seems not only does everyone want to use just the right hand lane, they also want to do it at 40mph or less
On the plus side that is on one of my cycle training routes so I assume I can look forward to having the lane to myself for the next few months!!
