What fuel in a Chimaera 400?
Discussion
Reading Mossy's blog raises the question in my mind of unleaded or super unleaded? He seems to be advocating the latter, but I don't know how un-standard his car is.
Mine is a standard 4 litre Chimaera, not an HC or an extra BHP in sight. I did a quick search of the blogs and missed any reference to this. I am a complete novice, so advice would be most welcome.
Thanks in advance.....

It's interesting that the picture is so varied on this thread but really we should all have come to expect that by now. Each of these cars is clearly different in a number of ways so it makes sense that different fuel will have different results. I can only speak from my own experience which is that it was like night and day For me. And to my knowledge the engine is utterly standard so hopefully anyone with a 4.0 should get some reward for their extra spend at the pump. Having said that, this is after only two tanks of the expensive stuff. So I will report back after another 500 miles.

Can't comment on the 400, but my 500 ran like a bag of spanners when I was in Italy & couldn't find any super.
Was you driving at hight altitude ?Sounds like to me it could be your timing .
My 340hp monster is happy to run on both

Thanks guys and guys (don't know any gals with hairy chests) - that's a great response. 13 responses in under an hour!
If you believe what the fuel companies say about their super fuel, you get the extra pennies per litre back in extra mpg, but I could never see the difference on the mpg readout in the 25000 mile a year diesel mercedes workhorse.
I will try both and see what I think and report back. First impressions are suitably expressed by a phrase involving "goes....." and "...off a shovel", so a more scientific test is called for.

I've got a 400 too. I've only ever put 'super' in it, for fear of damaging it somehow (irrational i know...). But it's also worth noting that the more expensive products vary depending on the station. Some are marketed for extra performance and some for extra economy, they have varied RON and different additives.

Excellent information thanks - I want the stuff with the O'Sullivan type of RON in it, the one that makes it go like a Rocket.....strangely, I didn't buy a TVR for its fuel economy! Many others seem to use Shell V Power - is that the one you would recommend?Quietlybonkers said:

Have used V-Power or BP Ultimate, can't recommend either over the other. SiGassing Station | Chimaera | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
