I will admit, I thought you were all joking with your doom laden prophecies that the new seals might only last a few thousand miles. Found out this evening that I had no clutch pedal pressure, at least the car had the decency to wait until it was at home on axle stands, rather than fail a couple of days earlier en-route to/from Lancashire.

Nevertheless, 3000 miles with fresh fluid seems remarkably poor. Obviously I have no intention of replacing them yet, brake fluid is cheap, and dropping the gearbox is hideous.

My seals were weeping after only 3k....... But now I've upgraded to the Raceproved slave.

Hopefully the up rated design and higher grade material/ construction will eliminate this problem.

Russ promised me it would last or he would wear only tight pink rubber shorts and walk to a Sheffield Wednesday home match.

Amusing though that sounds, it's inadequate compensation for having to drop the gearbox.

Hi Paul

Keep the faith, your not the only one having fun at the moment. My Cerb and I met this:

which did this

So while we are waiting for the parts dad and I have started on this so I will see you on the track in something wink

When you do come to do the slave, after you have removed the two bolts holding the gear stick to the control lever on top of the box, you can remove the control lever by undoing the four 13mm bolts holding the plate/lever to the top of the box. This makes it easlier to pull the box back further down the transmission tunnel so you can remove the bellhousing without taking the gearbox out completely. Careful that you do not lose the plastic cup the control lever sits in.

Good luck and phone/email me if you need any info

Andrew

Hi UKK wavey

One time when my clutch (almost) gave up working I took the Master cylinder apart and found that the internal return spring had broken in two places.

Perhaps you could look there first ?

Best of thumbup

Hi Andrew

That is really grim, very sorry to see that, I guess it’s cost you a couple of wheels as well as the shock. I have a pair of used rear shocks, no idea what they’re like but they’re yours FOC if that helps. I trust there’s no other damage, especially after seeing the cracks in Steve’s chassis.

Interesting to see the 911 engine bay, I had assumed you had to drop the engine just to change the plugs, but it doesn’t seem to be quite that bad.

Hope to see you at Zolder, if not before.

Cheers - Paul

Andrew told me about the TVR Car Club NL track day meet on 29th June, so I'm about to register. Registration and payment due by the end of May, so not much time left to decide.

My girlfriend helped me flush the clutch fluid before the Ace Cafe meet on Wednesday evening. All good for the two miles I drove the car, but I won't know what rate I'm losing fluid for some time now, as I removed the steering rack as soon as I got home on Wednesday night. Not at all happy about the steering rack issues, but will report back on that once it's returned by the rebuilder.

It didn't take so long to find out how quickly I was losing fluid after all. Two miles and ten days - that's all. What was rather irritating has now become really annoying, not least because I'm now booked up for Zolder in one month's time.

Thanks Alex, I really appreciate that. And there's a passenger seat going begging if you fancy going to Zolder rather than Goodwood FOS.

I've got a feeling my 2000 mile old seals could be on their way out. Put the car away Monday evening with a funny feeling pedal and a couple of dodgy gear changes. I'm guessing it wasn't just the heat affecting the clutch fluid? (trying to put a positive spin on things lol)

Oh the memories! ...and about this time last year too.

My slave failed with 4 days to go to Le Mans. I rolled my sleeves up and got stuck in. Having never done much more than change brake discs and pads on cars before it felt a little daunting, but I learnt a lot in those few days, and the Cerb and I grew a little closer.

You've got a month, it'll be a sinch!

Good luck!
