Not a bad idea at all and something i have long considered to be a very clever integration into electric cars. One of the biggest problems with cars these days is the lack of regeneration for the batteries whereas this uses a very simple concept.

IF his sums are right this will work similar to a petrol/diesel hybrid putting it ahead of a standard full electric like the tesla etc.

It's a car powered by a fan on the front FFS. Any power generated by the fan has to be less than the power required to push the fan through the air. Unless it's mostly parked somewhere windy, in which case a seperate wind generator on a pole would be more efficient.
Of course but if you combined this with regen braking and solar source you would be at a much better position than the tesla which when under power generates no electricity to recharge its batteries as i understand it. That's where this different absolute clean energy with a better range hypothetically.I've always thought something like this would be useful... if placed infront of polling booths.

Eh? I've driven a Nissan Leaf and the battery recharges on deceleration and braking. It also has a solar panel on the roof (although the power derived from PV cells is miniscule so it's pretty useless). Amateurish said:

My point exactly. When moving forward it is not charging it is only discharging. So at the point of most power use it is doing nothing to counter it. I am not saying this chaps idea is flawless but there is something to be said for the idea of generating power under load. The solar battery source is largely for internal comfort devices radio aircon etc.JonnyVTEC said:

That's where this different absolute clean energy with a better range hypothetically.The energy required to push the fan through the air is greater than the useful energy generated - adding a fan to the front of your car is a net energy loss.
This car only generates energy when it's parked somewhere windy (and even then it's a very poor wind generator because you have to park it towards the wind all the time). When it's driven the fan on the front actually reduces it's range.
If you want free green energy: bolt solar cells to your roof, stick up a wind generator and use the electricity to make synthetic methanol (using water and CO2 scrubbed from the air) and then pour that methanol straight in to your normal internal combustion engine. Greener than breathing.

Sorry, I don't understand. Let's say the car is cruising at 70mph. Maybe it needs 20kW to maintain that speed. How could the battery be recharged at this point?
