Epidural spinal injections
Discussion
Cheers.
I have emailed two local private places (out of hours to phone) for quotes and see what happens from there.
I have googled it and it's something I have requested quite a few times except my doctor appears to prefer to have left it until I'm left hobbling around with pins and needles and even more pain than before in my right leg before referring me.He was happy to just keep writing me pills,of which one set I had a bad reaction to.Severe side effects with tramadol so they went in the bin.
I know in some cases it doesn't work but I can't carry on like this so I have to try it.Each bout of my problem is worse than the last.
The main problem I have now is going from being fit to 18 months later a bloody cripple.I've done all the exercises physio requires me to do but it only gets gradually worse.
It's affecting my own life more (cycling and other activities with my son)and affecting my work life now with time off.
Injections are one thing I can get done and if they don't work start looking at discectomy, something which I would rather avoid, but at 36 I can't carry on like this.
Got an assessment with an osteopath for some treatment on Friday, used him 12 months ago with good results.
Cheers for the replies.

Well had some quotes in.
Sitting down quotes imo.
£1200-£1260 per injection plus £150-£200 consultation fee.
Christ on a bike I thought it would be half that or even a little less considering you might need upto 3-4 injections a year.
No wonder the doctor wanted to leave it until I'm almost a raspberry ripple.

I had several injections for a disc problem-with the NHS, I hasten to add.
They weren’t epidurals, they were Dorsal Root Ganglion (DRG) injections. You can’t numb the sciatic nerve because you need it to make your leg work! The task is to bathe an area around the nerve, with local anaesthetic (lidocaine) and a steriod.
Not too terrible a job to undergo. I lay on a table and was given a surface local jab. Then, the doc steers to long needle, using X-rays to see where the stuff goes.
When the procedure worked (not every time) it cut the pain by 1/3 or so, for about 3 months. Worth the waiting list time in my experience.

what area are you in? i can recommend various consultants if you go this route.
you can get these injections by highly experienced consultants privately for about £250. it's a relatively simple procedure, in and out 30minute appointment, although they did change the guidelines a few years ago, many still offer them in outpatients not under surgical procedure.
pointless unless you have some manipulation and physical treatment in conjunction though.

cant help in that area ( i'm surrye, london ), but for that injury you must have been seeing an osteopath for maniulation??? they should be able to recommend somebody. if you have not had manipulation, go and get some. you really can not rely on nhs to resolve back injuries.
Yep had physio 6 sessions paid through work back in January and now got osteopath 5-6 sessions paid through work scheme. Thats all you can get through work( physio, osteopaths etc) and in fairness work do supply this service to employees foc which is pretty good. But they can and will only supply so much before I start paying for extra sessions my self. (brewery work) I wouldnt have a problem doing that anyway, this injury is doing my head in now. Want to get back on the Mtb in the woods etc but no can do,yet.
The osteopath I'm seeing now is good,he deals with gyms, workplaces aind used to work for Leicester tigers before setting up his own buisness.
Used him before with good results.
Poster above: Looking into aviva etc for some healthcare quotes.
To add. Work are pretty good with it and after my osteopath session this morning I popped into work to discuss whats what and agree a work plan that will aid me for next week.(work sun-thurs)
Its time off that starts getting frowned upon with the new general manager.

Makes me wonder as well if the accident I had last year has anything to do with this.
I'm not looking for a claim, just wondering why I'm so bad now after doing physio and continuing to do exercises given to me.
I was T-boned on the N/S and did enough damage to push the n/s sills in and buckle the pillar on my car and pop the doors out.
It was bad enough to be very close to a Cat D write off to be fair.It was some £6.5k repair job done at BMW.
I was surprised they could repair it as I was thinking it would be written off.
