When did they ditch the Controller?

I bought a couple yesterday!

Sorry...just seen this!

To be honest I do think this is a retrograde step. App needs wifi whereas the Sonos control doesn't.

With the latest Android controller software, you can connect direct to the SonosNet rather than your normal wifi. This means you're not constrained by the distance to your wireless router, just to the nearest Sonos component. You also don't seem to get the delay in connecting that you get with IOS controllers when waking up.

What they need to do now is produce a version of the Android controller optimised for tablets rather than just the smartphone version - the iPad version running on Android would be a start.

Also the CR100 is water proof and frequently comes in the bathroom / shower with me.

I think most people are able to plan their songs for the 10 or so minutes that they are in the shower, plus taking a remote control in the shower does seem a bit weird.

While i agree with you on the decision, i actually found an option in the more recent version of the app that allows you to control the components via sonosnet direct and not exclusively via wifi.

Eater I stay in the shower longer than most or I'm bad at planing my play lists. But I do like a long shower with a beer, maybe its just me.

I personally prefer to have a dedicated controller for my system as opposed to using the ipod touch or ipad. With a house full of kids invariably one of them has the ipad for other desperately important chores!
As above a cheaper dedicated controller wouldve been good.
However, when I had my AV shop we must've returned over 25% of the CR200s due to faulty touchscreens. The bottom of the screen becomes inoperative. It went on for some time and each and on each and every occasion Sonos said it was just a small batch. Perhaps they've decided they dont need the hassle and it hasnt been fully resolved!

I agree with Toxic, there isn't really any good, cost effective wall docks that look good for the ipod/phone range.

There are a few for the ipad, ranging from the Walli which is just a wall bracket through to the iroom.

However, you then have to buy an ipad.

I am going to start offering a cheap Android Tablet and its specific table top stand as the point of control, especially as it can now access the SonosNet as has been said here. Surely it can't be to long before other devices can access in the same way.

I didn't get to the dealer meeting this week but there was supposed to be a NDA agreement and a little Show and Tell of new products.

I'll try to find out and post here as soon as I am allowed.

Vex, that's a good idea that will be very popular, I'm sure. In fact think I may consider the same and already came across a cheap and cheerful tablet here.

It's so cost effective and at the same time prevents everyone with an android phone from being in control!

CPC have some great deals on them, one even got 4 or 5 *'s on the gadget show.

The cheap ones are a little clunky in the type of touchscreen they use. Having said that, I have just put in a 21.5" touch screen all in one pc for CCTV use and that was under £500!!

Thank could be another great solution, with family email, internet and sonos control on in a nice central location.
