Make sure you also get a pre-filter, as the new ones don't have one built in.

I was going to clean up and paint my swirl pot at some stage and was wondering what exactly does it do? Is it just a fancy filter or does it help to ensure there is enough fuel under heavy load? Mine looks original so do they need replacing as a service item or just for peace of mind? I don't have any issues with the running of the car in this respect.

They are prone to rust and leaks, so worth changing every 10 years or so.

Main purpose is to make sure the full pump always has a supply of fuel, and to help balance the fuel in the twin tanks.

Yep, although the small inbuilt gauze filter was clean.

When I fitted a Bullet filter between the swirl pot and the fuel pump suction, I found that a paper element in the Bullet restricted engine power when the fuel tanks were less than half full.
Fitting a Bullet "mesh" strainer element sorted the problem.

Yes you must make sure you get the right element in the filter, they do two types.

Rang RT , they said there's two different sizes of swirl pot due to different fuel pipe sizes I think , and also you need two filters. Need to drain petrol from tank , take swirl pot off , measure and ring them up to get correct pot.Think I'll run the tank down by driving her for a few minutes.

Took fuel swirl pot off today , proper messy job , grease/petrol up sleeve/rusty jubilee (no nothing to do with the Queen) clips/petrol everywhere. Can't imagine a boxster owner doing this. Anyway its 'a big swirl pot' size according to RT so have ordered one plus a pre filter. No muck/rust coming out of pot so thats good.

Put mine all back together this last week. Didn't touch the swirl pot this time however. No leaks and no crap out of it when i drained the system. Job for another day.

Fitted new pipe from swirl pot to fuel pump but put pre filter in this pipe.....painted it gold and laquered it to preserve its appearance hehe

Fitted new filter from the pump and new clips all round and new bolts for filter clamp etc.

Fiddly as fook i can tell yers!

Given it big potatoes over the weekend and no fuel starvation whistle
