Best curry place I've found is Aagrah by BBC Yorkshire but that is a good 15 walk from the O2 Academy (Assuming you mean the Academy, there's no arena) http://www.aagrah.com/index.php?option=com_content...

Closest curry to O2 Academy would be Spice Quarter in Millenium Sq http://www.spicequarter.co.uk/ which is a buffet type place, good value but limited curry choice.

Akbars on Greek St is popular but I think its average.

If you prefer an alternative cuisine theres a good chinese in the area - Red Chilli, or Thai Edge for Thai.

Well worth the walk across to the BBC building Aagrah, definitely the best curry in Leeds city centre. Spice quarter is cr@p, cheap and nasty, IMHO of course.

Thai Edge is good and near the O2 Academy.

I took the OH to Akbars on Saturday evening. We thought the food and service was great, though you can't book so you just turn up and hope you don't have to wait too long. Also, there was a lot of very spirited conversation going on - we had to shout to be able to hear one another over the noise. It felt more like a very crowded and noisy bar than a restaurant.

Another vote for Aagrah, but then again I spend way too much time at the Shipley buffet so I am a tad biased

Is it good? I'm not far from Shipley.

Yes, and the buffet is handy if you're in a rush or on your lunch hour from work as you can just get on and eat immediately. Shipley is in my neck of the woods too.

The Aagrah is very very nice. But if it's anything like the one in Garforth, you're rushed in and out in no time. I don't like that.

Not city centre but Bengal Brasserie in Burley is divine.

Yup, they tend to have a selection of 4 starters, roast lamb, 6 mains, a few side dishes plus sauces etc and a half decent dessert selection. Not bad for £14 http://www.aagrah.com/index.php?option=com_content...

Miah's kitchen is a short walk (2 mins from Aakbars on Greek St) and is getting good reviews. In a city with a fair few curryhouses expectations are high....

I would rule out Aagrah and Mumtaz purely as its a right trek from Millenium Square.

Compared to their other restaurants I find the Aagrah in Leeds to be a bit lacking, the food was very ordinary the last time I went in there and could easily have been from the shelves of Asda. It's also a fair old trot from the 02.

Miah's Kitchen on York Place is probably the nearest one worth a try:

Does it have to be a curry though? There are lots of other options in the area including some great Japanese noodles at Fuji Hero.

Fuji Hero is good - basic, but good. No-nonsense food and generous portions. I always like places where there is a significant number of Japanese/Korean/Chinese customers... good sign...

Very much in the "bus station cafe" school of interior design and a limited but great menu smile

+1 Fuji Hiro is great but their meal deal isn't what it used to be! Spiced Chicken Men with Spicey Pork Gyoza is fine dining...

It's been over a year since I've been, I thought Fuji Hero was exempt from any kind of change frown

On a good day the hyderabadi is worth a look from a taste point of view, it doesn't have much heat though.
