If you wanted to source a bare bones, quick mini (BMW), for use on the road, where would you go. Is there a company that does this well. Something well put together, not a grenade. Recomendations please.

More info needed. Like budget, how fast, what do you really want, where do you live and how far will you travel, how extreme or not, are you looking at R53's or R56's?

Buy a mechanically decent but maybe cosmetically tired R53 Cooper S for £5k. Strip the interior, and give it to Lohen with a bundle of cash.

GT Tuning. A close friend had a bad experience with the company mentioned above. Was enough to put me off going there put it that way.

What he said!

Lohen are a great company! you can get surprisingly large amounts of power out of one too... really does depend on budget though!

We've only had the wife's MCS for a couple of weeks but I'm dying to start fettling with it already! Upgrade from 170bhp to circa 210bhp for about £650 is tempting to say the least.

If you're after an R53, fit a smaller supercharger pulley and you'll see north of 200bhp easily.

Where are you based? There's many MINI specialists who can do this for you. Lohen and GTT all do the same thing, just for far more money than it should cost.

I know what you mean, I have been holding off for ages (I have a 05 FJCW), but as my life is getting more stable I am thinking more and more about some tinkering!

On the power available... take a glance at these... http://www.minitorque.com/forum/f545/2012-rolling-...

Buy a JCW - old ones can be had for sub £5k.

Get rid of the run flat tyres.

If going for more power buy an LSD - none of the older cars have this and you do need it above 200 bhp.

Those guys have spent a lot of money to get to those figures. 230bhp is well within reach with just a few simple mods. As for where to go/who to speak to, there is Coastal Racing, Lohen, Minicraft and 1320 Mini, all dotted around the country, take your pick, they all know their stuff

What about a GP?

We are trying to find a company that will supply a car already sorted, something like a GP but moreso, something upholstered, that will be reliable, hopefully about 250 BHP, but is road reliable. Is that maybe an unreasonable request ? The money is available for a professionally sorted car.

Oh, The Gloucester/Cheltenham area, but that,s fairly academic.

That's still a little vague. BMW will sell you a new JCW with 210hp and warranty. That would seem the easier route if you want hassle free.

But there hundreds of possibilities.

Can't fault Lohen. I took mine there, spent around £800 on a Milltek and a supercharger pulley which pushed another 32bhp out of it.
Personally, I wouldn't bother with JCW stuff. It's far too expensive and a bit overrated.

To be honest, getting that kind of power shouldn't be too much of a problem, buying a readily sorted car is going to be your issue I think. I personally don't know if any of the above places sell cars ready tunned.
My guess is that your easiest option is to buy a JCW or GP and then take it to one of these companies, or do you not have time to do that?

You don't get that much from a smaller pully. You can get abgout 20bhp from a smaller pully.

Make sure you get a 2007 onwards MCS if your going that that route. Much better and stronger gearbox.
