Hi, I have a bad rattle from the rear parcel shelf of my DB9. I think the whole leather trim bit is loose, can anybody help?

I have exactly the same issue on my 2004 model...which I bought in January and my AM dealer has sweated to try and find the solution. Mine only makes a noise when the weather is warm and the car has been in the sun. I have the workshop manual and it shows the way in which the parcel shelf can be removed. It's quite a job by the looks of things, but doable by a good DIYer with some safe fir tree clips... I have not attempted it as the car is under warranty. I am afraid I don't know the answer but will let you know once the AM dealer has sorted it...

I’ve just accepted that my DB9 rattles and it has squeaks and on a smooth road it all goes away.

I’m guessing quite a lot of interiors are damaged (mine was) or not refitted properly, on the behalf of the first owners who were chasing rattles. Sorry can’t do any better.

this is usually caused by the leather touching the rear screen around the brake light area . if u remove the center part of the shelf and cable tie the base of the shelf to the module below pulling it down tight you will then get clearane between the screen and the leather when the center part is refitted and hopefully cure your noises.

I have ruled out my 'rattle' being caused by leather touching the rear screen; there is a very clear gap between the glass and the centre rear console. It sounds to me more like the shelf is floating (they are only fixed at the 'cabin end') and when going over the slightest bump, because the suspension is so firm, the shelf jumps up and down at the rear and 'bangs'. It is the most irritating thing ever and I am hoping that the AM dealer sorts it pronto.....I don't think they have done a full removal of the interior trim to get to the problem.....I think they have tried padding it from the boot...

Hi Thanks for this. I have exactly the same issue as big brin.

This rattle is almost a bang but only when the car has been left in the sun. The shelf is not touching the screen and when it bangs and rattles its doing it on whatever is under it. It is not touching the screen nor is the brake light surround.

At the weekend I started to strip the rear trim as per the workshop manual, however was halted when the two rear seat backs did not come out as per the manual! There is two fixing bolts in the base under a removable leather covered panel. The manual shows them just coming away after that but no way!

Any Ideas how the rear seat backs come out in reality?

It sounds like i do need to get to the underside of the centre section and cable tie it down...

Try pushing a piece of soft foam between the rear screen and the shelf, it worked for me and is invisible.

Just had a look at the parts manual and I note there is a bracket shown as "bracket fixing rear squab" 2off. The fixing bracket for the O/S rear seat is located on the right side (trans tunnel) near the seat belt entry point and the N/S seat bracket is located on the R/H top side of the seat. So I guess one has to lift the seat back up a little to free it. Should you wish to remove the parcel shelf both rear seats need to be removed.

On the occasion I had to remove the rear seat (off side) I just removed the centre trim and screws as per the W/S manual I don't remember having a problem with the seat back coming free. Perhaps desperation had set in 'cos it was v uncomfortable in the back.

Hi brakedwell I have noise that I think is coming from the rear shelf touching the glass, what foam did you use? It is invisible if you push it between the shelf and the rear glass?
