Rover 3 litre V6
Discussion
A work colleague who is not car minded has problems with water loss. On a 100 mile journey, the car will overheat and has been found by the AA rescue service to be our of coolant. The car has been tested for head gasket failure and has been pressure tested, but no cause has been diagnosed. The radiator cap has been replaced to no avail.
Is this a recognised problem with this V6 engine, or can anybody point me towards possible causes.
Many thanks
David.

Its leaking.
Look for tell tale signs of coolant stains around the waterpump and the inlet manifold o rings. The engine has a very low volume of coolant so it has very little to lose before nasty things happen. The new cap will increase the losses from a leak with the improved pressure so it should be easy to find.
Of couorse the head gasket could be gone between a waterway and the chamber and the water is being 'consumed' by the engine...........but would be found by a sniffer. I assume the sump is not full of coolant and that rules out coolant oilway breaches......
